Not all post offices are passport acceptance facilities. here is link to find the closest post office to you, using your zip code, that accepts passport applications
http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/
For a first-time passport for someone at least 16 y.o. you need to:
- bring completed application "form DS-11." Here is link to fill it out online
https://pptform.state.gov/(t3fdire53dvajo55uogxke55)/DS11/MainDS11.aspx
- bring two passport photos that meet requirements, for requirements see this link
http://travel.state.gov/passport/guide/composition/composition_874.html
- if you were born in the U.S. bring your state-certified copy of your birth certificate. If not, then bring your Consular Report of Birth Abroad or your Naturalization Certificate.
- bring a government-issued photo ID, like driver's license (if you have a Naturalization Certificate, then photo ID is not necessary)
- if your birth certificate was recently ordered, you should bring supplemental documentation to support your identity
- bring an international travel itinerary. you can print one from the internet using travelocity, expedia, or whatever
-bring a personal check or buy a money order for the passport agency fee of $67 payable to U.S. Department of State
- prepare to pay the post office their fee of $30, form of payment depends on post office.
- if you need the passport mailed back to you in 4-8 weeks, pay extra $60 (personal check or money order) for expedited processing
-IF YOU NEED THE PASSPORT IN LESS THAN FOUR WEEKS, DO NOT GO THROUGH POST OFFICE. USE AN COMPANY THAT SPECIALIZES IN GETTING RUSH PASSPORTS

they have a certain line in the post office. Make sure that u have like 150 dollars and your birth cirtificate when u go to get it and probably some other stuff but i can't remember. If u don't have everything required to get ur passport then u will have to come back. Make sure u wear a plain polo shirt or something with out brand names on it or you will regret your photo. (I hate mine)
