I read your previous question and I am wondering if you are the one who does not want the kids there. They are your children..Is there anything you could do to make them want to come to your house? Or are you just not wanting them too? If this is the case tell your ex you dont want visitation and if that doesnt work go to court and get the visitation pulled.

It's not the amount of money that we spend on our kids that make them happy persons, its the amount of time and energy that we put into them.
Have them bring some of their things over and leave them at your house. Plan inexpensive games and crafts for you to do together. A game of hide and seek, tag, catch, kickball or wrestling does'nt cost a cent. You can cook dinner together, cuddle up on the coach and guess the answers to a game show together. The park/playground is free. And there are many free kids activities that happen on a regular basis in every major city.
Use your imagination. Remember what it was like when you were 8 & 9. Most of all, just have fun with them. Its only once a week, you can swing it if you try.
Just stick with it. You'll be glad you did.

Interesting question. Are you saying that it is only money that motivates your kids' love for you? Or, are you asking what can be done with visiting children that doesn't cost money? If you can afford the gas, and have the time, take them for a trip. Try the local mountains, desert, seashore, wherever? Try taking them to sporting events, cultural locations (kids really do enjoy museums...particularly if you look for special exhibits and do some personal research first). There are usually activities (inexpensive) aimed at kids...look in the local newspapers. Try googling for children's activities in your neighborhood. Begin some projects, crafts or things they can work on each time they come over. Play word games, give them assignments (such as to identify three national capitols in the world that have interesting stories during the past week). In other words, use your imagination. Learn how to re-frame the question.

A deck of cards, checkers & boardgames are cheap (most on sale now) You don't have to eat out, go to disneyworld or anything like that. Buy a basketball & go to the park. If you or they have a dog, go to a dog park, they'll have fun & get to play w/other dogs as well. Can you rent a video for $3.50 at blockbuster, microwave popcorn, & 2 litre of Sam's club drinks? Instead of Mc'D's make hotdogs or burgers at home, play hide & seek, sing along w/radio or cd's and dance around the room, it's OK you're supposed to look silly. Having fun with your kids doesn't take a lot of money, just imagination & LOTS OF LOVE!
I wish you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!

If you're wondering about New Years, go to your grocery store, get a cheap bottle of sparkling grape juice and then hit the dollar store for some plastic champagne glasses and maybe some noise makers or something. If cash allows, get some cheese and crackers and chips and dip (you can probably find some good snacks at the dollar store). Staying up late with snacks and "adult" beverages would be fun. Happy New Year!

There are many things you can do WITHOUT having lots of money.
Library / Video Stores have FREE / inexpensive movies you can Rent!
Talking to them, spending quality time also works. Visit family & old friends. Go for a scenic drive.
Playing board games - Monopoly, Scrabble, Scene It, Trivial Pursuit, Cards - Go Fish/Old Maid/.
If you don't have the money to BUY, ask family/friends if you can BORROW them.
Go to Thrift Stores for an adventure. There are lots of "unknown" treasures just waiting to be seen & even bought! Really inexpensive fun at a thrift/resale shop!
If you have the internet, then WHY don't you have any extra money to spend on your children???

Don't give up hope! There are still ways to entertain them. If you could go out to Toys R' Us or something and get a board game, like Apples to Apples or something, they could spend some quality time with you doing that. You could take them to a park or Chuckee Cheese (it's free to go there, just not the games and pizza). Or even a simple bike ride. Just give them some options that don't involve spending much money and let them pick.

Try to do fun things with them there. Kids need to realize that they don't always have to go out and do something to have fun. When I was younger my parents kept plenty of things around the house for us to do and enjoy.
That's really sad that they feel like that *big hug* I hope that they come over more when they start to realize that they can chill at home instead of having to go out and spend money.

Find ways to have fun with them that cost little or nothing. Play snap, or hide and seek, paint, draw. The important thing is spending time talking to them, listening to them and having fun. Get some mini pizza bases, tomato puree, cheese and pizza toppings and all make pizza. Make tents indoors with old sheets. Bake cakes, make home-made kites then go see if they'll fly. There are craft books with ideas on things to do with kids.
