Move on. I know it's hard, but it's best for you. Never look back. If you've been involved for a while these things take time. But everyday tell yourself you are getting better. You're your own person and can stand on your own two feet. Put on your best, dazzling smile and concentrate on your date and on tonight. Don't worry about tomorrow, it will be here soon enough. Have fun tonight, you deserve it. Always remember you're a special, unique person. There is only one you. That makes you rare and precious. Any guy is lucky to be dating you. Happy New Year.

Totally normal. Your brain is confusing the present (broken-up) with the past and your past wishes for the future, now broken. The good memories shouldn't disappear, but the FEELINGS are about history, not current events. Feelings can't just be turned off or on, it takes time. In the mean time, put on a happy face and start to enjoy those things you can. Don't forget, but don't fantasize either. Think to your self "It was good while it lasted, now I've got to go find something better". Studies show that pretending to be happy, helps us feel better. (but that doesn't mean eating crap every day with a smile on your face!) Focus on the positive. The more (fun) things you do and try and the better you feel about your accomplishments, the more positive stuff you will have to feel good about. Good Luck and keep Truckin'

What you've described happens to everyone that looses a person they love through no fault of their own. That longing we have for it to come back over rides the evidence right in front of us and we continue to hope. The fact that you are still friends makes that even more likely.
This self deception, if carried on long enough, will result in our lives passing us by and for no reason.
You must admit to yourself that he has moved on. He has another girl friend. You do not have another boy friend because you somehow keep hoping that he will come back.
Please do not deceive yourself. By not moving on and finding that he is not the only guy in this world you could love you are bound to feel empty. You have a big hole where your heart is and with no one to fill it you no doubt will continue to have that feeling.
Fill that part you left with him and you will be fine.

Deby, my heart goes out to you. My suggestion; look inside yourself, discover the real beauty that is inside you, and acknowledge that you are unique in the universe. Honor yourself for the great and wonderful person you are, learn to love yourself and accept yourself without judgment. You have always done the best you could. You know that you cannot control others, how they think, how they react. You also know that the only real thing you can control is yourself, how you think and react. So, since you can control your own reactions, you can decide if you are going to be happy or sad. It really is that simple. Doing it is tough, but the idea is simple. So, decide you are great and wonderful, he is whatever he is and if someday he comes around to recognizing how fantastic you are, perhaps you will think about how you react to him at that time. Meanwhile, live your own life and enjoy. And, Happy New Year.

I don't think you should wait for him. He has already moved on and you should to. You will always have a place for him in your heart and that feeling never goes away completely it just changes into nostalgia.Go on your date you may find out that you have just met your Prince Charming.
