A walk during your lunch hour sounds like a great idea. To get to 10,000 steps a day, you can also (1) choose more remote parking spaces (at work, at the store, etc.) , (2) walk to a co-worker's desk instead of sending an email, and (3) always take the stairs instead of the elevator. Good luck reaching your goal!

If you want exactly 10,000 steps, carry a counter with you wherever you go and record how many steps any given path takes you. 100 x 100 steps = 10,000. If you just want to walk more:

1. If you drive, part further from where you're going (like in the back of the parking lot).
2. If you get a ride or take public transit, get out a few blocks away from where you're going.
3. Find a track. Walk around it. Count your steps. Repeat. Don't forget to go around it all four ways (clockwise, counter-clockwise, and walk backwards both directions).
4. Take the stairs. Elevators are actually designed to suck out your strength. Each stair step can count as 2... if by the 30th floor you don't feel it, you're already pretty hardcore.

Hope that helps.

Buy a pedometer, first of all, so you have an idea of how many steps you'd normally take in a day without trying. Find out what that is, then make a game plan.
Do you work in a multi-level building? Try taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Take the long way to your car, to the bus, to whatever it is you walk to. There are a lot of ways to throw extra steps in throughout your day.

For the average Roman soldier this would have been about 5 miles. In addition to all the other suggestions, take the long route to the photocopier, washroom and lunch room. If you live in a good neighbourhood, get off the bus 1 stop early.

Don't take elevators if it's less than 7 floors.

Park in the back of a parking lot instead of the closest spot you can find.

ok, you dont want to count them yourself, so get one of those machines that counts steps, or how much you walk , covert it to feet. 1 mile = 1760 yards
1 meter = 100 centimeters
1 mile = 5280 feet
1 yard = 3 feet
1 foot = 12 inches
