Since we're paying for water

Two ways, without wasting any water.

1. Fill the 3 litre, pour it into your container.
2. Fill the 3 litre again, pour it into the 5 litre
3. Fill the 3 litre again, pour it into the 5 litre - stop when the 5 litre is full (there will be one litre left in the 3 litre)
4. Pour the remainder from the 3litre to your container

Way 2. pouring water back into the well

1. Fill the 5 litre with water.
2. Fill the 3 litre from the 5litre
3. Pour the remainder from the 5litre to your container
4. Empty the 3 litre into the well
Repeat.

Fill the 5 l bottle and pour into the 3 l until it is full. There will be 2 l pf water left in the 5 l bottle. Then empty the 3 l bottle, and transfer the 2 l of water from the 5 l bottle into the 3 l one. The 3 l bottle now contains 2 l of water. Now fill the 5 l to capacity and use it to fill the 3 l bottle to the top, this means transfer 1 l of water to the 3 l, therefore, there is now 4 l of water in the 5 l bottle. Done. (What does this have to do with your girlfriend?)

There are many different ways of doing this watery jugglery. Doing it using minimum number of Liters is the real challenge. Let see someone can beat the following suggestion, which requires 6L of water.

Fill the 3L bottle and pour all 3L in to your bottle. Fill the 3L bottle again and pour all 3L into 5L bottle. Then pour from your bottle into 5L bottle until it gets filled. Now your bottle has 1L left. Now pour from 5L Bottle into the 3L bottle until it gets filled. Finally pour all 3L from the 3L bottle to your bottle.
