For their faith.
History records that in the first three centuries of our Common Era the Caesars of the Roman Empire brought some 10 different waves of persecution against the early Christians, but all to no avail. Those who followed in Jesus’ steps, “solid in the faith,” refused to compromise even though that “roaring lion,” the Devil, saw to it that many of them were thrown to literal lions or otherwise tortured to the death.—1 Peter 5:8, 9; compare 1 Corinthians 15:32; 2 Timothy 4:17.

They weren't thrown to lions because all of them wore togas, hon. This change into Rome's attempt to stamp out something that remotely threatened their skill--each person who refused to renowned Caesar as their lord and draw close. they merely made a accessible extracurricular murderous sport of it. reason being they're actually not a global skill. skill video games kill. keep it in thoughts next time you vote.

This is the kind of question and answers that you would expect from Saddam, you are just as evil as he was, wanting to kill people who are different then yourselves. You think it harmless, because you sit alone at your computer and make sick jokes, but that starts a mind set against a whole group of people. Now you see why Christians say you are sinful and need Jesus.

You know, if we genetically modified the Xtians to be nutritionally superior for lions, then we could re-start the tradition w/o fear of harming the world's lion population. They are so quick to play victim and martyr, let's give them their 15 minutes of fame! And it can be called American Idolators:The Revenge Of The Pagans. And Simon can comment on how pathetic.....

Don't worry...the true church is getting weaker and weaker and will eventually die out...the world will rejoice and send gifts to one another because they are finally rid of those darn nuisance Christians...it'll be a grand party.
Until God crashes it, and raises the church back up and takes it home, and you realize that you goofed.
Of course, you could quit with the Christian bashing NOW, before all that does happen, and maybe it won't be so tuff on you later.
Your choice, of course.

Because the lions needed a leaner meat to keep fit. A good alternative from the fatty pompous fools (hint hint) they normally fed them. Christians of that time tended to be hardworkers... not loafers.

Christians were thrown to the lions by the Romans because the Romans did not agree with Christianity's view of the world.
Jesus Himself said that many would be persucuted for being His follower. The same applies today.
Christians are hated around the world simply because we follow Jesus Christ.

for entertainment purposes. gladiators, pitting animals against each other, torturing Christians and other assorted unpopular groups all part of the Bread and Circuses strategy of keeping the milling masses preoccupied while government corruption runs rampant.
different entertainments nowadays but the strategy still works.
