Whatever you do, don't whine. Just sit down and talk to them. Say things like it would make your life happier and you'd love to have a new best friend, a loyal companion. Tell them you'd be responsible for it, take care of it, and they wouldn't have to do much of anything. Tell them you're 100% responsible. And maybe, if all that doesn't work, say "A home isn't a home without a pet." DON'T say, "But everyone ELSE has one!" Parents hate it when you do that... They don't like being compared to other families. Just say you don't want to miss out on having the experience of being a dog owner as a child. Also, to prove you can take care of a dog, be very responsible and mature around the house and make sure they notice how good you are doing. How you act can prove if you're responsible enough.

First you have to demonstrate to them that you are a responsible child. A dog is a big responsibility. Dogs need care and attention day and night. Don't expect your parents to take care of the dog for you, let them know YOU are fully prepared to take on the responsibility yourself all through the dogs life. It becomes part of the family. It will need the attention of a veterinarian at least twice a year. It may need to be spayed or neutered, which may cost several hundred dollars. Read some books on dog care. Find out what breed of dog is right for your family. And, most importantly, love and care for it.

Anyone who has to be convinced to have a dog in their house should not have one. It has to be a unanimous decision. Dogs are WAY more trouble than most people can imagine. I tell people don't get one unless you absolutely can't live without it. Volunteer at a shelter, find a neighbor and volunteer to walk their dog for them--get involved in some animals and then maybe they'll see how responsible you are.

Be responsible. Show them that you can take care of your current responsibility consistently and without complaint. Dogs are a lot of work and they don't wait for you when they have to go out, eat, etc. Let them know that you will be able to take care of the dog and how serious you are about the responsibility that comes along with having a pet. An adorable "please" and a little patience probably wouldn't hurt either. Good luck.

"mommy! i will take care of it and be very responsible! Schnauzers are REALLY cute AND they don't shed! They are small and easy to train!"--if you are an only child--"I won't be lonely anymore! (cource if you aren't you can say) I'll have someone to play with!"-- if you aren't an only child say--"but We'll have someone else to play with! and protect us! MOM!!! I REALLY want a dog! PLEASE!!!!!!" and you can take it from there!

but first prove that you are responsible! and be nice to your parents! Also if you do use what i have written above do not whine while doing so. Don't forget to use your manners also! That helps alot. Those are the main things. remember do not use the above paragraph (unless they ask what kind of dog! use the kind of dog i have written just be sure their ears aren't cropped they are much cuter that way!) Good Luck!

Okay when i was little i convinced my parents to get me 2 dogs 2 times so i'm good at this here you go. now what you need to do is search up websites for good dogs and look for good breeders or look for good pet stores. find a dog that your mother would like and is not that hard to raise. mostly small not shedding dogs are good. and tell her that you will feed him and walk him and take care of him so she feels like it is not going to be just her raising it. and try to find cheaper dogs. and never complain if you do get him. and try not t get one that says it bites alot. well tell me if you get a dog and what kind if you do!

Give some reasons why having a dog would be good:

Like...

It would help with responsibility
Teach you discipline
You won't be so lonely.

Begging works sometimes too. Or make a deal with your parents that if you get some money you'll pay for half of one third for it if they let you get one.

Show them how responsible you are with home work, leaning up your room, helping your parents around the house. It will convince them you are serious and it will show you will able to handle the responsibility of dog (handle him, caring him, cleaning up after him etc)

this is excactly a question i need to ask too because i really want a dog ! well, you can tell them it will be great company for the whole family, and dogs interact great with people ! tell them that they will learn to love it and it will definetly be worth it. the other day my mom was even saying how she will get me a dog during summer, because during the day she gets so bored in the house [housewife] also tell them you will take care of it yourself and you accept all responsibilities of it [if its only your dog, not whole familys] but remeber a dog is definatly a lot of workkk !
