Goodbye 2006! Hello 2007!
Yes, I think by celebrating New Year's Day/Eve, it officially ends 2006. It allows one to reflect back on the past year and look forward to life changing possibilities in 2007.
Dont be pessimistic and see this as just 'another day'. Tomorrow is the start of a brand New Year. If youre not happy about way things are currently, CHANGE them.
Happy New Year :)

Not particularly, just another day and another night. I'd rather snuggle up in bed and sleep but unfortunately there are those who find any excuse to make a noise and let off a load of fireworks, so I suppose it will be a mug of cocoa and try and do a bit more jig saw until about 3 o'clock.

No. This is the Julian New year, which is meaningless.
A more meaningful day for a New Year would be December 21st, which is the day on which the Earth is furthest from the Sun, and also the shortest day (in the northern hemisphere) (and the longest in the Southern).
However, as a Wiccan, I celebrate New Year on Samhain, which you probably know as Halloween.
In any case, one second is much the same as the one before it, and the one after it, and one minute is much the same as the one before it, and the one after it.

Doesn't bother me at all since we can all choose what we would like to do on New Year's Eve. We'll be hanging out at home, having a few drinks, watching all the hoo ha on TV.

Badger, I would like to say you are a bit of a killjoy, but I happen to agree. Talk about braving catching a cold or worse on a cold, wet, windy night.
Staying in myself, entertaining any who show up.
Warm, Safe, and more healthy.
A Chav-free zone!

Happy New Year everyone!

It's just an other excuse to party for those that do. It's just another day for me. I'll watch the ball drop, then just come back to Y!A and answer a few more.
