You need to look at the overall picture of what is hapenning. Sure, the news of bombs going off is not good, but then a bomb can go off anywhere in the world.

Consider the following:
- Bangkok is a big city. You could be anywhere at anytime and a bomb, if there is one, could be anywhere anytime. And if you take precautions, stay sensible and don't go to crowded places and the likely target area, then your chance of being caught by the bomb will be very remote.

- I looked at the news from several different reports, and I do agree that this is NOT likely to be a terrorist attack from the southern provinces. They have been trouble in the south for many years but never been any aggressive threat to the capital. There is too much at stake for such group to attack the capital. They can not afford to risk harming the king and bring the wrath of the whole country down upon them. You just need to stay away from the southern provinces

- I noticed that the areas of Bangkok that were targeted were NOT areas of heavy concentration of foreign tourists. Sure, there will be foreigners everywhere but it is not like the bombs in Bali where it specifically targeted foreigners.

- There have been a fear of bombs on planes expecially more so after september 2001, but that has not stopped people travelling. It shouldn't stop you travelling either.

- If we are so scared of such event and stop our lives - then the terrorist would have won. You might as well not get up out of bed in the morning.

- there have always been warnings about terrorist attacks every year in Thailand. You don't know for sure when the threat will be carried out but you would still go, wouldn't you - even though there is that constant threat?

- You can change your destination, but that doesn't guarantee where you go will be safe either. IF - ok, IF.... terrorists are targeting foreigners , they can easily see the shift in popular destination and will carry out their savage act there.

At the moment, everyone is caught up on the bombing and, like all major events like these, the irrational conclusion of saying the whole country is not safe permeates people's mind. (Same as when the tsunami hits two years ago. Many people stopped going to Thailand because they fear they will get killed by another tsunami - and they were going BANGKOK!) Thailand is a small country but it is still a big place. Bangkok itself is a BIG city.

I can not outright say to you that it is safe. No one can. You need to weight up your own reasons for and against. Just keep some common sense and exercise some safe travelling practices if you decide to go.

Some points to think about.

I think it sould be safe. Where will you go then? Please be more specify that I can help you more.

Don't be panic. I think this terrorist tended to mess up at crowded touristic place like they bombed the place that should be the place the Bangkokian and tourists go for celebrating New Year Eve. It should be over soon. No speacial celebration in Bangkok during 5th Jan.

But the atmosphere would be changed after that explosion.

Hope these help you!! Happy New Year!!

well i hope so. I am going on the 9th. I think if you stay out of the south it is better but even then this was just done on the new years eve as a demonstration. Hopefully,,
I am spending one week in Bangkok then three round about. the other thing is that most travel insurance does not cover acts of terrorism so you will lose monies if you don't go. have looked on foreign office site keep looking there

perchance in you checklist of expenses, you may desire to discover one from a liberal criticizing Israel? I criticize them for persevering with to construct new settlements in what may be the independent zone. yet i don't criticize them for combating back against people who opt to tension them into the sea. So what does that make me, a liberal or conservative? it is so complicated whilst human beings insist that I be certain my opinions on my political ideology somewhat of my easily rational concept! I gave an answer itemizing each and every of the Christian terrorist communities in united statesa. some weeks in the past. perchance I could flow back and dig it out for you. Does being a conservative require you to hate all religions different than Christianity?

Are you safe in America where people are on shopping mall killing sprees? How about London, where terrorists are bombing the subways? Or Indonesia? Or?

Life is fate and don't think so much. Even the plane you travel is not safe, then in this case don't go out. Stay put !

to early to tell, don't know who did it, and if the police are as good at solving crimes as they do in the south they will never know.
