Typically beginner recyclers will start with the usual items: newspaper, cans, and bottles. The ease of disposal of recyclables will depend on the recycling services available to you. Here we have curbside recycling so in the house we put bottles and cans (rinsed and dried) in one paper bag and then newspaper and carboard in another paper bag. Every two weeks I spend 5 minutes tops carrying the bags out to the curb to put in our recycling bin. Other towns have recycling centers that you might have to bring the items to yourself. If that is the case I highly recommend that you sort your recyclables as your use them and prepare to dispose of them. It can help to buy several bins to easily sort your items. E-mail me if you have any questions because I used to work for a recycling center in Massachusetts. laurie_kennison@yahoo.com

Some ways are:
Taking aluminum cans to a local can drive. Many schools have these, ask around. If schools aren't any help, your city probably has a recycling center, try maybe the phone book?
Also, you can take old newspaper or just about any paper to be recycled. Where I live there are cans to put them in around the neighborhood, but, again, you may have to find a recycling center where you live and they can give some more ideas. Good job on wanting to help the environment. ^_^

1st off call your local garbage collection company. they are probably taking recycling and providing a bin free of charge through their contact with your town or city....but I never figure out what day to set out my recycling, so I just bag up everything jumbled together and go down to the local recycling center and sort it as I dump out the bags in their large bins, it only takes about 10 minutes to dump out 15 garbage bags of cans, bottles and paper...I probably have more recycling than I do garbage, I have less garbage to take to the curb...the only difficult part is rinsing things out quick (I don't want to spend too much on water so I;m not perfect about it, I just reduce contents 95% to make sure I'm not making a fly or rat problem) and I stick these bags in my garage for a couple months until I get enough to take in...it's easy and really doesn't take any effort...and I feel good about it...Penn and Teller might be right that it does cost more, but recycling does reduce the size of our waste dumps and reduces our need of finite resources...the raw materials are going to become more expensive if we don't recycle.
I'm on a kick to walk more and use my car less...I walk to the local store and bring back 2 small bags of groceries, and I sometimes take a couple bags of recycles on the way...why drive to the gym...I do most of my small shopping at the small grocery nearby and just make one trip to the supermarket once a week...I'm only a mile from work and when it's nice I walk that too, Sometimes my car sits for a week without starting, but I do live in a small town.

According to Penn & Teller, recycling is a waste of time. They say by the time the stuff is collected, sorted, stored and recycled it cost more then producing new product. They that only aluminum is cost efficent. I still recycle though.

What Kent M told is correct, you have to talk to the ones that collect garbage to see what they recycle and what they don t.
Furthermore, maybe your home is not isolated. Maybe other people near you had same thoughs, you together can organize something better like biomass generators.
Maybe your city offers facilities, tax deductions, or something for recycling. Ask them as well.
Here, glass manufarers buy glass, ask those companies if you have one near you.
How difficult seems to carry on that wonderful decision when there is no help from governments, cities, states, or whatever.
It is so easy for us. Our city gov. places containers near homes in different colors depending on the type of material: one for paper, one for glass, one for others (metal is taken with magnetic devices from the others). At home we have small trashcans with three sides corresponding to those colors.
You are heroes and heroines, guys.

If you thinking about recycle, add the other two things also.
1)Use less.
2)Re-Use.
3)recycle
