Jehovah's Witnesses don't celebrate Christmas, so I was wondering if any Witnesses could tell me what they try to do instead? I suppose there might be a dilemma with not going to work - you have a day off work because of a pagan satanic festival, but obviously you can't go to work because they will be closed. Do you try to get some work done at home? Interesting stuff.

Treat it much like any other day. Maybe watch the old films that are on or do some ministry work as this is supposed to be religious occasion maybe people celebrating should be in an open bible talking mood.
They just get on with life, what does the worldly do when JW's celebrate the proper memorial of Christ? Does the world stop everything and hide in bed?

Jehovah's Witnesses aren't bothered by Christmass celebrations or New Years Celebrations or any other worldly hollidays or celebrations that go on at this time of the year or at any other time, and I personally have worked on the days that other workers have wanted to take off so that these people can have their hollidays off, and these hollidays are to us just like any other day we do not do anything different on those days to any other day of the year, we just do not take any part in these celebrations because of their pagan origin, yes some can go to work because there is some places that do not close on those holidays but even though as one of Jehovah's Witnesses I have not celebrated this has never interfeared with my life in any way I have lived on those days just as I have on any otherday or time of year No have never missed not celebrating any of those celebrations at all.

Softfuzzyrabbit likes to answer questions about Jehovah's Witnesses. I wonder, however, if he ever reads any posts by Jehovah's Witnesses. I wonder if he reads the sources of our information.

On this question in particular, there is a post referencing 3-4 different encyclopedias regarding the origin of Christmas. Make note that Jehovah's Witnesses have nothing to do with the publishing of encyclopedias especially any Catholic Encyclopedias.

It is a KNOWN fact that Christmas comes from paganism.

In regards to whether or not we believe in, have faith in, or look up to Jesus, YES we do to all three.

As to the accusation of our Governing Body making money off of us, no they do not.

None of our elders are paid. None of our ministerial servants are paid. None of our pioneers are paid.

There is no payment for literature. From anyone at the door, from us, or anywhere.

We explain that we accept donations toward the printing costs. Those donations are sent to New York FOR PRINTING COSTS.

Please if you have a question for Jehovah's Witnesses, asks Jehovah's Witnesses.

Hmmm. a million money as against eternal existence...enable me see...hmm. maximum folk could pay a million money for eternal existence, could they not? So shop the money. you decide on it better than I do. If i'm keen to supply up my existence to benefit existence, then how a lot greater am I keen to supply up a million money. (Mark 8:35-37) If I reject a million dollar present, have I lost something? No. If I settle for it, i'd desire to lose my eternal existence. If not by using accepting it, then by using letting it corrupt me. Sherry B is actual. Jehovah's Witnesses have not got a restrict on accepting Christmas presents that I even have seen. yet that's the rub for me: by using accepting a Christmas present, I open myself as much as accusation. the two they say "I gave you a present, now you may desire to reciprocate or you're sinning," or they say "You popular a present, so your faith shouldn't mean that a lot to you," or this is a bribe and that they're going to assume a desire. yet once I reject the present, their emotions would be harm, yet this is not my situation. each and every person who's conscious me is conscious my stand, and if I would desire to describe it to them and that they nonetheless opt to tension the present on me, this is their situation, not mine. They on my own are in charge respecting themselves. no rely the way you investigate it, this is a blood present and that i can't settle for it. besides, if i'm not meant to settle for a birthday present meant for myself, why could I settle for a birthday present meant for Jesus? the distinction between presents is reason. in the event that they say this is a Christmas or birthday present, then this is an criminal duty. the different present would purely be out of their heart. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, i could reject the million money in spite of if it weren't for Christmas for the excuses I stated above. nonetheless in spite of if this is willed to me, i visit take 2% to pay off my wellbeing middle expenditures and different debts and supply something away. As for trip bonuses, the corporation can't, by using regulation, take it back, and that they are an expression of thank you for production, not purely a Christmas present. i does not be in charge respecting it in the two of those 2 instances. As a word, no witness could ever word the money to a political end, as we at the instant are not any portion of this international. Involvement in politics is a disfellowshipping offense. (John 15:18-19; a million Corinthians 4:8-14; 5:9-13)

I have Chinese food. I have a big family, so it is rare for us to all fit into a restaurant confortably at the same time. The Chinese food restaurant is open on Christmas and pretty much empty, so we have the whole place practically to ourselves. The restaurant loves it, we are friendly, polite, respectful, and we leave a big tip.

xmas is a pagan holiday. Jesus told us to celebrate his death not his birth. If Jehovah wanted us to celebrate Jesus birth it would be in the bible. we give gifts to our family during the year. we also have parties during the year. it is just another day for us. Jesus died in Nisan 14 the last supper or the passover. we celebrate his memorial. the churches don't. we celebrate it once a year since passover is once a year on Nisan 14th. we do this in 235 lands. some witnesses invite family over since no one is working but many don't. when they do invite family over they talk about Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ. www.watchtower.org

When we were kids all of my mum's jehovahs witness relations used to turn up on christmas day, uninvited, watch the christmas tv play with our toys (even though they were adults) and expect to be given chrismas dinner . They would accept gifts in christmas paper as long as you said it wasn't a chrismas gift. It got to the point where we had to go away for christmas in order to avoid them coming round for christmas!!

They go out in field service, and they were advised at one time to show up not so early in the morning.Let those who do celebrate it have a little peace and quiet! Now that the topic of Christmas has been posted and I hate to burst their elitist bubble, but Jehovah's Witnesses fail to realize that all true Christians recognize that the actual date of Jesus birth is not mentioned in the Holy Bible nor the New World Translation. Since true Christianity has its roots in Judaism and not Paganism, we have to look at this date in light of Jewish history. In the Jewish month of Chislev, (our month of December on the 25th day of the month), the Jewish observance of Chanukah also called Hanukkah was started. This festival began as the temple was rededicated by Judas Maccabeus in 165 BC, after being desecrated by Antiochus Epiphanaes by his setting up a pig as a sacrifice in the temple. It is also called the festival of lights. The Bible account recorded in John 10:22,23 states "At that time the festival of dedication (or lights) took place at Jerusalem; it was winter and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon". Therefore, Christians chose this date to
observe the birth of Jesus, the true "light of the world"(John 8:12). Since Jesus himself likened His body to a temple in John 2:19, "Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up", Christians felt it appropriate to observe the birth of Jesus Christ, the "true temple" on December 25th.
Jehovah's Witnesses reasons for not celebrating Christmas are actually not because it's "Pagan" or because "they give honor to Jesus everyday" . Not celebrating Christmas is a fabricated Watchtower Society teaching, a common tactic used by most cults to lessen the importance of Christ and to prevent loyal members from associating with "worldly" relatives.

I have had some in-laws visit me and my family. I turned them away, they had no reason to be at my house on Christmas eve. Anyhow I think it is convenient for some of them to be Jehovah Witness'. Some still drink and drug. I even know some who are living in adultery and have pre-marital sex. Talk about convenience.
