Okay, I have been taking Klonopin for short term anxiety for ten days. Two days were .25 in morning and .25 at night, the remaining 8 days were just .25 a night. I no longer want to take the klonopin and my short term crisis is over. last night I took .125 (half of .25 tablet) and had insomnia all night. I called doctor today and he said it would be fine to just stop it and not take anymore. All day I have had a headache I can not get rid of and some chest pain. Is that from the Klonopin withdrawal? I am really nervous. Should I just stop abruptly like my doctor said or did I need to taper? This chest pain and headache is scaring me. Please help....

I went through klonopin withdrawal - cold turkey. It was hell. I was a nervouse wreck, could not think straight, and - yes. Physical problems including chest hurting, heart pounding, ache all over, etc. I'd taper off if I had to do it all over again. But, in answer to your question, I'd say yes. The feeling(s) you're going through now are due to stopping or tapering way down from klonopin. It's tough and I do feel for you.

well different people have different reactions to med's. I think your doctor should of tapered you off, even though he was using a low dose. If you are feeling with drawal from just quit taking them, then get back on them and lower the dose every 3 days. That will help. I guess just the anxiety that you are feeling from not knowing if you should just go cold turkey or taper off of the klonopin could cause you enough stress that the anxiety would could get worse and cause some chest pain. Like i said all people are different when it comes to medications.
But it could be something else, and you should really go to an ER and get it checked out, you really don't want to start the new year out not knowing why you are having these chest pain. So please go to an er and have them check out those chest pains, and make sure there is not serious going on. The headaches could also be from stress, cause i would say you are stressing out on the chest pains, and you really should be. That will get you to go to the er and make sure you are ok,so get going now, and make sure your chest pains and headaches are not a sign of something more serious.....take care now, ok!!!!!!

You have a happy new year too ......

It would be useful to publish a bit more. Your symptoms are those of panic, but also more serious problems, and the risks are a heck of a lot different for a twenty year old than for a forty five year old. Also, if this was your first excursion into benzo's, you're not withdrawing, but if clonazepam was a switch from a previous long-term lorazepam (Ativan) use, you probably are. At any rate, you need to give out more information to get more (GIGO), and you shouldn't online.

possibly just the anxiety you had that was the reason you started klonopin in the first place. in that case i would take a little, the benefit outways the risk at that point.
