I need a very friendly dog preferably under 15 lbs full grown, no larger than 25 lbs! That is good with children and other dogs! I have an 8 lb Papillon, i want a friend for him! But also a dog that would be compatible with our lifestyle! We live in an apartment have a 2 year old daughter and an 8lb male dog! Please don't say "Check out your local animal shelter." I would just like specific dogs breeds that are good with young children and other small dogs! Either by knowledge or experience! Thanks in advance!

I like poodle mixes because they are calm, smart and don't shed. I own a male cockapoo and he's wonderful with the kids.

I would say that a shih tsu would be a good choice. You might want to get a pup to start with, being that you have a small child. They do better with children if they are around them from the beginning. They can be a little set in their ways if older. They do not need much exercise, and are a very sturdy little dog. Even though they have lots of hair they don't really shed much, but need to be brushed often. They virtually have no odor if bathed frequently. ( mine get baths about every 7-10 days) You can either let their hair grow, or keep them clipped. They are very human oriented dogs and are ready made companions. We love ours. Check out this site below. It has a lot of information about all types of dogs both purebred and mixed breeds.

Having lived in apartmeants before being a home owner, and always have had dogs, I found that where you live doesn't matter much to the dog as long as they get the love, training and excerise that they all need. The best breed I have had is an English cocker spaniel (30-40lbs). They are great family dogs. Very loyal loving, intelligent and willing to please! Any spaniel breed is wonderful. I know someone suggested a cockapoo and that is a great choice- Two great breeds in one. They however need to be groomed. Kids and dogs are terrific for each other. Best of luck to you.

hmmmm... lets see, well what about a Basset Artesian Normand? good with kids, okay with urbal living, likes cold climates, likes other animals, not really a good watch dog. the only thing u may not like is when it is full grown it will be about 30 pounds or so. it is a small and loving dog. it is also known as a Basset Artois. or a basset hound? or a shibu inu. it is: good with kids, is okay with urban living, is okay with other dogs, a good watch dog, could live in any climate, good with other animals, and weighs about 18-22 pounds full grown. Also i would recamend going to a library and checking out some books. i hope this helps u!

Why don't you try another papillon? you already know what they are like. Or a shits zu, or a laso apso, or a lasa poo, which is a combination of a laso apso and poodle, they are small, and they apparently don't shed much if at all. their is also bejan freis? they are very cute, cuddly and small. I'm sorry if I've misspelled any of them. As long as you get a puppy and train it yourself, your dog will likely be fine with children, if you get an older dog, just make sure you know they have experience with children. and are good with them.

I've been very pleased with the indoor behavior of our Rat Terrier.

They're not an AKC recognized breed at the moment, so you will have to watch out for the size, since they can range from 4 to 40 pounds. Ours is 8 pounds. He is tiny! But very sweet and laid back, and can even keep up with our yellow lab when he needs to. (He's a tough little guy, so I think would be great with kids.)

Great Danes are fabulous apartment dogs despite their size. They have a very sweet disposition (as long as they were properly socialized as a youngster) and they are couch potatoes! They are known to be great with cats (I'm not kidding), children and other dogs. You can't exercise them a great deal because it can cause damage to their bones and joints. Sounds perfect, huh? I have a Great Dane and know many others in my area...I can vouch for the above statemets. =)

An English Bulldog is a great apartment pet because of their compact size.also they don't like alot of excercise.I have had three of these dogs over the years, they are kind of lazy and like to sleep alot. These dogs can be quite expensive but you can try a bulldog rescue organization. all dogs need regular excercise and lots of love but I haven't seen too many hyper bulldogs.

King Cavalier Spaniels are good dogs for apartments but I recommend getting one as a pup since you have a small child- that way they can grow together.
