I just got my MS degree in computer science this month and am looking for a job. With a little knowledge of hardware and some knowledge about Database/MSSQL/.NET, I want to find a job that has more potentials and suit my personality.

I have no experience at all in SAP related field except that I have pretty good sense in database as well as learn a new language or so. I'v downloaded and read some ebooks about SAP/ABAP.

My question is: can anyone give me a guidline or advice for how to enter SAP industry? There are so many jobs that is SAP-related, I don't know which is best for a beginner with a MS degress in computer science. Does system analyst or developer a good choice to me?? What do I do to prepare for a job interview like that??

Any advice is welcomed and appreciated.

thanks for the advice there catetom, but you didn't answer my question though. of course i know i need to prepare before anyone will give me a shot, but my question is "HOW" do u prepare by give me any helpful guidlines or sources or something..you only repeat one theory that almost everyone knows already (but it doesn't mean everyone will follow anyway) --well prepared-- but by doing so, you have to blank blank blank...my question is how you fill out my blank?? thanks

If what you are looking for is to be employed by a company that uses SAP and be an end user of SAP, it is not all that necessary that you do a course in SAP. Your qualifications and expertise in business functions would get you the job. Most employers train people to use their systems soon after being recruited. However if you want to take up SAP as a profession you will need to do one of the certification exams. SAP solutions are categorised in to modules, such as BW, CRM, HR, FI/CO and so on. Before you enrol for a course in SAP, find out what each module involves and decide wich one is most relevant to your current know-how. For example if you have studied accountancy and that's what you like, you would most probably choose the FI/CO module. Also decide on the level of certification that would give you the best return on investment. For example, consultant level certification is needed for the highest paid jobs. However if your aspiration is to be a qualified user of SAP, a user level course would suffice which costs a lot less.

Hey there,

I hate to say it but as a beginner, you need to be prepared to empty the trash and make the coffee for a while.

Most of the eager young bucks come out of college and other schools thinking they are going to set the world on fire. You might be good, but in the computer industry, you will find many times it is not what you know, but who you know.

You have to prove yourself before anyone will even give you a shot. How can you get a shot if you can not prove yourself? Empty the garbage can and make the coffee and do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING the first job gives you. Be humble and willing to do ANYTHING.

Tom
