Hello!

I am also trying to avoid chocolate and junk food. I need to tell you, you can't "avoid" a temptation. It helps when you say this:

"A moment on the lips, forever on the hips."

If that still doesn't help, I go for the tiny sour apples. Bananas, strawberries, lemons, grapes, ALL FRUIT AND VEGGIES are great substitues! I just LOVE those little cherry tomatoes! Those tiny things are so cute and so delicious, plus very healthy!

Natural sugar like in strawberries is better than adding High Frutcos Corn Syrup.

Good luck! I am on day 5 of not eating sweets and junk food! The worst thing I have done so far is dip my finger in lemon cake batter!

To satisfy temptation where chocolate is concerned, look for ASHER'S CHOCOLATE. You should be able to find it in the candy sections for grocery stores or Wal-Marts. Maybe in the diabetic section. It is sugar free, but it is REALLY good. I am NOT diabetic & neither is my husband or boys, but this way I can have the chocolate & NOT feel so guilty about it. Also, look for sugarfree hard candies. They are good as well. As for the junk food, if you have kids who take lunches to school or who want snacks after school it's hard not to buy it. We have three growing boys so I keep probably more junk in the house than I need to, but when their friends drop by, they can pick the refridgerator & the cupboards clean in seconds. If they didn't eat like they do, I wouldn't buy so much of it. Where we are, sometimes getting a lot of fresh fruits & veggies can be a chore, but I can during the summer & I do keep apples, bananas & oranges. But, for kids that doesn't always get the thumbs up...
HA HA HA!!!!

Whenever I get that uncontrollable urge to eat something I'm trying to avoid, I go find something to do. Whether it's walking the dog, cleaning the shower, or reading a book, it helps take your mind off of the craving. If I can keep myself busy, the craving usually passes after a half hour.

I also try real hard not to buy it when I grocery shop. When I realized I got most of my junk food (choco bars, chips) at the gas station, I started paying at the pump so I never went inside and saw all that tastey, salty, sweet crap.

Don't depend on willpower, because when you cave you will feel like a failure and that leads to binging for some people. Just substitute the bad behavior (eating junk) for another activity and don't bring it into your home where you'll inevitably eat it.

it is really hard especially if its all advertised all around you. My friend has a sweet personality and was very much over weight. What she did was keep with her photo of her now and after. The after photo was a cut and paste of someone elses body with her face (of course she creatively narrowed her face to match the the would be weight).
The after photo was her looking great and looking at the current photo discouraged her from the junk food and snacks.
She now looks great, feels great and is so much more happy and enjoying life to its fullest. Mostly, she feels she will be around a lot longer for her children.
Good Luck and have a healthy New Year!!

Increase your tryptophan and magnesium consumption (chocolate is one of the highest sources of these). Low tryptophan results in increased cravings (has to do with being the precursor to serotonin in the brain which controls appetite and cravings), and cravings are also reduced by increased carb (also in the chocolate)intake because it stimulates increased serotonin levels.

Good sources of tryptophan -- turkey, chocolate, and 5-HTP supplements (this last one is the next step in the biochemical pathway that produces serotonin)

Don't let it in your house. When you go out and someone offers you taboo food, raise your hand, palm outward, so the hand covers your view of the food and say, "Get the behind me, Satan!"

Understand that anyone who would encourage you to eat something which is bad for you is not a good friend.

Not that I have found. You just have to have this tiny Tony Little on your shoulder yelling, "Okay, you can eat that, but then we're gettin' on the gazelle for 45 minutes. Oh Yeah!!" Then you will equate chocolate with exercise and VOILA!!

I agree with Jamie, smell it and imagine the taste, do you really like the way chips taste and the way you feel after eating it? If you are worried about your health try not to eat too much and eat healthy and jog.(I love jogging so much!)

I sure hope not, that would be horrible!!! Just the thought is depressing. I don't ever want to see this kind of question on here again. Now go wash your mind out with some brussell sprouts.
