My hubby does field testing for a bait company! He recommends that you try first of all, live maggots, but you could also try any of the following, corn, tiger nuts, or a single smelly boillie, but the flavour must be water based not oil based as the oil will congeal around the boilie in the cold water which will then seal in the flavour. He said to try BCUK website, they do a really wide selection of winter baits all with water based diPS!!! Good luck!!!
ps he said" if you can't catch on ther bait", then sell your tackle!!! Strong words hey, the stuff must be good!!! All the best for 2007
Ps: His Personal Best is a 53lb mirror in france !!!
His english P B is 44lb 12oz !!
added info:
He had a 15lb mirror today 03/01/07 on false corn!

If i were heading out for carp, i would take the following.
MAGGOTTS.
SWEETCORN.
MEAT.
BREAD.
What i would personally do is try and bait up 2 or 3 different areas. I would use the bait sparingly (little and often), not pile it in like the summer time but give them enough attraction usingthe bread as a cloud.
Winter time is the time for spicy baits too. Could spice your meat and bread with paprika or turmeric for example.
hope all goes well, good luck.

Canned corn ! It is a natural food for most Carp. It is clean, easy to use and the Carp will fight each other to get to it.
