a responsible cat owner or owner of any animal will regularly worm the animal. it means that at the very worst if he escapes he will have wormer in his system then and so if he comes across worms he'll be safe for a while. if he's still with his mother worm both, worms can be passed on through the milk. safers always better with young animals, if a kitten gets worms they can easily reproduce at an incredible rate and completely block the gut killing the poor thing.

Is he acting like he has worms? Have you seen worms in his bed? Have you taken a sample of his poo to the vets?

If the answer is no to those questions why would you worm him?

The dewormer I have been given in the past is a liquid. I squirt the prescribed amount into a bowl from the syringe and mix it with wet food.

cats need regular deworming just as dogs do, they can develop major roundworm infestations if not kept dewormed. There are dewormers that can be given that will also protect your cat against heartworm (cats can get heartworm just as dogs can). If your cat has had fleas, he may need to be dewormed for tapeworm, which requires a different wormer than those used for hooks whips and roundworms. Another common parasite pets can get is the giardia parasite, which causes poor appetite and diarrhea and sometimes weight loss and which is easily treated by the drug metronidazole. Even if your cat never goes out, he will still need deworming. Parasites such as roundworms hide in tissues such as lung tissue, in cyst form, and the dewormers won't kill that stage of the parasites development. Those parasites migrate to the intestine between dewormings, which is why animals need to be repetitively dewormed. Tapeworm eggs are carried inside the body of a flea, the pet gets tapeworm by swallowing the flea, then the eggs of the tapeworm hatching out inside the pets digestive system. Giardia can be picked up in many ways, commonly from dirty water or from contact with other infected creatures, or even from giardia being carried in on your shoes. Most healthy adult animals are immune to the effects of giardia (and coccidia, which is similar to giardia in its effects), but baby animals, stressed or sick animals, and elderly animals or those with poor immune systems will show symptoms of giardiasis

Yes it is still necassary to deworm periodically. You should take a stool sample in to the vet to get a fecal test done once to twice a year.

It's probably not necessary. Whenever you take him in for his yearly shots, bring a stool sample for the vet to check.

in all honesty, probably not necessary unless you see worms, especially as he has been done before
