I am very confused as to why the FAFSA application period begins in January. I have never gotten my W-2s before about March and I have to wait on my parents' w2s as well. I do realize that some people must get their W2s early, if only because school people are already reminding me to file. Is there some way to hurry up your w2s that I just don't know about? Or maybe I'm just unlucky.

Hope everyone has a nice new year.

I believe, thought I am not sure, that you can estimate your earnings than when u get the FAFSA results at your house, you can modify it..that way u can be sure you get the deadline (here the state grant deadline is March 1).I know it sucks.. Most people keep their last check stub so they can know for sure.. Employers don't care and don't get in a hurry ..they have to be mailed by Jan 31st. GL

Ask your school if they accept estimated FAFSA data as meeting the priority deadline. If this is case, you can file your FAFSA under the "have not filed a tax return but will" option. Then when you do get your W2's you can go back into your FAFSA and correct.

You should have your W2 before March. Beside the tax year starts in Jan and many people start school in Jan.
