For what? For humans? For dogs? For cats?

For humans it may be a good way of life if properly done, but for a cat who is an obligate carnivore, it would kill it, as they cannot live off of vegetable matter.

A combination of both. Dogs were not created to live on vegetables alone, their diet is mostly what they could hunt and kill. Human were also made the same way, we cannot exist on vegetables alone. We need protein, and 100 years ago we did not have protein powders and shakes and all the stuff available to us today. Our dogs are the same annimals that existed thousands of years ago, and so are we. That is why as humans we are better off eating a diet similar to what our anchestors ate in a cave 10000 ago. But of course, we have to butt in there too. We are trying to make vegeterians out of our dogs. Yes, it is true that over consumption of red meat will negatively impact LDL levels and raise our overall cholesterol and triglicerides. But, our dogs are not human, they are dogs and they can eat as such. The only reason we have a problem with out food consumption today is because we have become soft as a race. We no longer run 15-20 miles a day to hunt or avoid being hunted. We no longer have the same foods that we had 10000 years ago. But that is another story. The healthiest dogs I have seen and the best diet to date that I have come across, is the one fed in Slovakia by the Border PAtrol Kennels to their dogs. Wild game cooked till it falls off the bone and a pasta of some type. The dogs eat it like crazy and they have the best coat, health, vitality, energy etc. They work out in all kinds of conditions, walking patrol at night in temperatures of 10 degrees for 15-20 kilometers. That is the best diet I have seen and gighly recommend for anyone who is able to do it.

Prey Model diet is definately more healthy. Dogs aren't vegetarians, they aren't designed to extract nutrition from grains/veggies. If you look at a dogs anatomy and digestive system you can clearly see that they are meat eaters....the jaw length, design, type of teeth and position tell you they are made for ripping & tearing not chewing. The digestive tract is shorter and digestive juices are stronger in order to digest meats & bones and extract nutriiton from these. Dogs do not digest or break down grains & veggies effectively. It takes up to 3 times more grain/veggies for a dog to get nutritional benefits as it does meats & bones. Dogs can't remain healthy on a vegetarian diet and shouldn't be expected too.

While it's possible to have a healthy dog on a vegetarian diet, it's very, very hard to balance correctly.

Dogs are more omnivorous than cats, and wild dogs and wolves will eat berries and other fruits.

A properly balanced omnivore diet, though mostly meat, is best for dogs.

Vegetarian is and has been proven to be far healthier and the individual lives longer when done right. You have protein and B12 to make up for but soy meats have no or very littlefat,no cholesterol and higher in protein and other vitamins than any meat. When someone gets very ill the first thing their told is to lay off the red meat. Being a vegetarian isnt about carrots and lettuce, there are thousands of choices. Your immune system is higher, your stomach will feel better and youll be more regular.

For dogs and cats? Definitely a prey model diet, even if it is in kibble form. Dogs and cats are carnivores they have not evolved to eat tofu. Food passes rapidly through their guts-which are designed to digest meat.

For people who can choose, it's a matter of personal preference.

i would never feed my dog a totally vegetarian diet since they are omnivores and should get some sort of meat protein to stay healthy. and i'm not exactly sure what you mean by prey model so i can't answer that honestly.

Dogs and cats are not designed to live on vegetation, they will only thrive on animal protein. Humans can get by without, but are healthier with animal protein (even if it's just eggs or RAW milk) in their diets. Most people simply overdo it with meat, making it unhealthy.
