Most all churches require some leap of faith.
Mormon, mainline Christian, Muslim, etc.

Over a period of near 30 yr several mormon "missionaries" tried to get me into that... I came close to joining up... I read all they gave me to read, and did all they said to do. I listened and asked questions... but there was always something that was just... missing... finaly I did some reading at the public library and in other books on history and such.... and observed what they were doing and how they lived their lives and interacted with those not mormon... and I could not find any thing that was real about what they were offering in their teachings... there was an emptyness that just was something I can only describe as... hollow in their "faith".... I was definatly not a "religious" person... I was very much against what the Christians presented... but even I could see that the Christians had more to offer than the mormons in the way of substance backing the "faith"... and I thought the Chrisians were, at best, just kind of funny...don't get me wrong most of the mormons I met and have known over the years are very fine people... they do good things in their communities and all that... it is not the people ...it is the lack of substance..and what I came to believe outright deception in the baics of the founding of the mormon"religion" that I could just not over come and kept me from joining up.... I am now very greatful that I did not, because I eventualy camt to know The Truth of God's Word and Will and am now of The true Chriatian Faith.... That is another thing that turned me off to the mormons...all of the times I was recruted I was told how the "christians" were not the truth and in fact enemies of mormons and how the "christian bible" was false and the mormons had the only true books..... Now they are even claiming to be christians and they even give out their version of The King James Bible... instead of using the very bible J. Smith claimed to have received directly from God... they do not even use the Bible all of the foundign fathers of their "faith claimed to be the only Word of God... there is just something not right at the core of that "faith"... I now know what it is but will respect your request not to "bash" the mormons "faith. ... but I can not say anything that would in any way recomend looking into what the mormons offer for their"faith".

The Mormons have a rather unique view of things most of their thoughts run parallel with the Shriner's organization. They seem to be attracted to the state of Utah. Each religious organization has it's beliefs in different ways. Follow the bible and that will lead you to what religion you want to practice. I know the Mormons believe in having more than one wife and the 10 commandments say thou shall not commit adultery and if you have 10 wives that ain't right. The person isn't crazy, its just what that person believes. If I told you I believed in UFOs you may consider me crazy.

If you are talking about the Mormon chuch, Yes they are for real but I don't understand that much about their teachings. I grew up as a Baptist and read the King James version of the bible. It helps me to understand more about God and his Son Jesus. If you will read and study it every day or as often as you can, It will help you in a lot of ways to be a better person.

I'm sorry, I don't think you're going to get much help here. Mr. Smith was basically a con man before he found his 'golden plates' and remained a con man afterwards. I think the people who are now followers of the religion are truly believing what they're taught, but the beginning of it was just a fake and con. Read the real Bible and decide what you think from that.

Ask them about the book of Mormon and Walt Wittman's "Leaves of Grass". They are very similar. Makes me think.......hmmm
On another thought, the Mormons believe that accepting Christ simply reconciles us with God. From there on you must perfrom acts of charity and good deeds to reach heaven. These same people believe in the Holy Bible too, but the bible teaches us that we are saved by faith. We are commanded to walk in a newness of life but our good deeds are not to reach heaven.

I really hope you write back and tell us more - I have never heard of this church; do you know what LDS stands for? And, is the Joseph you mention Marys Husand Joseph? Anyway, as far as that particular Joseph having Gold plates as you tell, I can say with absolutely no doubt that it is not scriptural - but please tell more. thanks
