My 14 month old has been facinated with books since about 9 months old she will sit in your lap and read the same book over and over again then get up and get another one to repeat the process she does this for about 15 minutes, she doesn't grab the book while your reading, it's her favorite thing to do anytime your sitting were she can sit in your lap she'll bring you a book to read, I have 2 older kids and they never were like this sure they would bring me a book but after the first 2 pages they were up again running around playing. Question is does anyone elses toddlers around her age do this? oh and it's not something I want to change I love that she loves me to read to her just curios about other baby's doing this.

Wow thats great kids dont usually start gaining an interest in books til like 4 or 5. Just keeping reading to her and once she's like 3 buy her some of her own books. there are plenty of interactive kids books that will help her get a handle at reading sooner.

Sounds like she's going to be an early reader. If I were you I would take advantage of it and start working with her on her letters. Get an alphabet book and start reading that to her. Of course point at each letter and say the name, then have her say it. Teach her the alphabet song and before too long she'll probably be pointing out signs and telling you what the letters are. After that it won't be too hard to teach her to sound out words and then it's just a hop, skip and a jump to learning how to read. I learned how to read before I started kindergarten and I think that it gave me a HUGE advantage over the other kids. Good luck!!

my daughter has been the same way since I can remember. Its great isnt it! Just enjoy it and read to her whenever you have the chance. I really think my little one's love of books is what has helped her to have such good communication skills. she was talking in complete sentences since she was only 12 months old and now she is almost two and can speak better and more clear than most three year olds I know!

How wonderful!

My son is 9.5mo and can sit and look at a book all day, but he wants to tear and eat the pages. Sounds like your son just really loves mommy time!

Yes, my daughter loves books and so did my son! They soak up everything and it's a wonderful way for them to learn! Keep doing it! I think I read "Goodnight Moon" till I was blue in the face! ha!

That is awesome! My daughter did the same thing. She'd sit quietly while I read books and she wanted them read to her over and over! I read to her while I was pregnant, and it seems like she liked it then, too LOL

My son did it. Maybe they just like the comfort of sitting on your lap, or looking at the colours. I'm sure they don't understand the story.

My oldest son did the same thing and now is a voracious reader.
Keep encouraging your daughter to spend time with you and her books. There is no better "quality time" between a parent and their child.

encourage it and continue with it. she will end up reading way early and you have a chance of having a high iq child.
reading stgimulates all learning.
any activity a baby shows a propensity for at an ealry age will mean a great chance for early develoment.

Thank you very much for reading to your child. This is so important and they say if a child is read to even at a young age, it helps them develop speech earlier. It is obvious to me when a child reads to their child. Thanks for spending quality time with your child. Keep up the great work.
