Lots of good info here so far.

I work out at home and at work, because I can and I truly enjoy it.

Warm up for about 5-10 minutes before starting (light calisthenics, and stretching).

Do your workout (jog, ride a bicycle, skip rope, lift weights, martial arts, you get the idea) for at least 30 minutes, but not more than 45 minutes per session/not more than four days per week.

If you start to get dizzy, get swollen/discolored body parts during your workout, if something starts to hurt (head, joints, etc.), STOP and get to a doctor.

Remember to stay hydrated (H2O is best).

Warm down for a few minutes (stretch, rehydrate for one last time, etc.).

I work out at WORK and HOME.

Monday thru Friday - I get a break at 9 am, so I do some simple aerobics and stretching. Lunch is at 11. I do a little weightlifting and The Step with a weighted vest. 2nd break is at 1 PM. More stretching and aerobics. The aerobics and stretching takes about 10 minutes each time. The weight vest takes about 25 minutes.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday night. I have a cable machine I bought at Walmart called Powerhouse wm1501 by Powerhouse gym.

I set the plates at 1, do 20 reps. then 2, then 3, then 4 up to 9. I do the arms and legs. Eventually I will reach peaks with various exercises. I can only do No. 9 with my legs. Usually 6 reps max.
Takes about an hour each time.

Sunday I have a power rack where I do a 60 second shoulder press, also called a 1/4 squat. HEAVY LIFTING. And I have a barbell on the floor where I bend over, knees bent, elbows bent, and lift and HOLD the barbell and weights for 60 seconds. ALSO HEAVY lifting. Takes about 15 minutes.

By breaking up my exercises into groups and days, my body is not tired, not in pain. REST is very important. It is not for fun, the program is routine. But I look and feel GREAT.

And at MY age, that is important.
I am 54 years old.

20 - 30 minutes cardio, walking on a treadmile with the highest incline. Right before I go to bed I do 105 sit-ups. Before the actual working out I stretch. I can't go without doing the sit-ups for some reason, I feel like I need it, and I'm getting better at it. It feels just a little bit easier every time after the first week. The walking is done at least every weekday night. Sometimes If I don't have time to do things at night I double time the next day. Last night I did 210 sit-ups because I forget the day before... I haven't done treadmile for a while because it's the break (so I'm taking a break. :) Happy new year's eve, I'm guessing this is a resolution? I'm going to... drink more water. yah lol.

well it depends on how much weight you want to lose, or maybe perhaps you just want to tone up? If you want to lose weight, then I would suggest doing 30- 40 minutes of cardio 4 to 5 days a week. Also, you NEED to watch what you eat because a large snack or unhealthy meal could basically put back on all the calories you lost during exercising, thus rendering the exercise as a complete waste of time and energy. As for me, I'm a very hardcore dieter and workout buff so I do almost 2 hours of exercise, 5 days a week. But its different for everyone.

hmm 3 to 5 times a week, 30 minutes when I do cardio, cos I hate it and cant take much more of it than that. 45 minutes to 1 hour if wieight training, because I love to do that.
