car amp problems?

I have the 1200w sony xplod amp and sony xplod in deck. The amp works fine if the in deck is on the radio but if i switch it to cd the amp light goes off. Why is this happening and how could i fix this?

Britster hit the point. You have two (2) remote wires on the back of your deck. The one you are plugged into is the power antenna, which is the reason it only works in radio mode. Switch it to another and try again.

Sxplod are entry level headunits so if possible which to at least a 5v unit such as Eclispe,Alpine or Kenwood because an amp rated at 1200w will need high voltage and clean power supply also make sure you your amp on 1/2 to 3/4 gain theres no need to max out and check your power supply ie..alt and battery..after this you should get 600-800 from the amp but not 1200w just as most amp makers Sony overates thier product line as well ...good luck

If I was you, I would start with the wiring of your cd player. Could be possible that you connected the remote wire to the wrong lead wire coming from the cd player. If you have ever worked in the Audio shop industry, you would be quick to learn that the best way to figure out the problem is by eliminating the possibilities of what the problem is not. Start off simple and work your way to the root. I would definitely start behind the CD player first and make sure everything is wired properly, and that you have the right remote wire lead.

The wire gauge size from the amp to the speakers wouldn't make them not work, just not sound great. There is likely some type of connection problem between the amp and speakers.

It sounds like a problem with your deck. Uless you have a CD changer, in which case, the problem is most likely there. If it were your amplifier, it would not work regardless of CD or Radio.
