This man makes my heart soar. I finally found him after years of me searching for him and him searching for me (we used to work together). I can't stop thinking about him, and when he kissed me and told me he's always loved me, my heart literally skipped a beat. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him. Problem? He is black and my parents are against interracial dating. I have an idea on how to tell them, but I hate confrontations like this with them...last time I got slapped and told that if I date another black man, my kids would be taken away (keep in mind, my kids are mixed too). Not to mention this man loves my kids...so how should I tell my parents????

note---I am not a teen...I am 23 and yes, for financial reasons (i am a single mother of 2 still in diapers) i do live with my parents.

tell them exactly what you wrote here.....your grown and you need to be happy and if they can't see that.....then it's just too bad. As long as your a good mom she can't do anything about the kids.

Awww that is so sweet and I really feel bad for you. I say you get yourself together and move out of your parents house. They can't stop you from dating whomever you want but they can stop you from bringing whomever to the house or even when you are allowed to come and go...

But dang you're 23 unmarried, with more than 1 child and still in your parents house... You really need to grow up and start taking care of yourself and your responsibilities. If the man is really the one then he will help you out.

My only suggestion would be to sit down with the parents and have a serious, honest chat. You could start by telling them how lonesome you've been, that you've searched high & low for someone who meets your needs and who you think would meet their approval but have been unable to find that person. Depending on how it's going at that point, you could mention this special someone and ask if they could please open their minds and hearts to just meet him. The main thing is to show your parents the respect they deserve even if you don't agree with them. I wish you only the best of luck.

You already know they are not going to like your news. I would be honest with them and let your new man prove over time that he's good for your and your kids. Good Luck.

Explain to your parents that "once you go black, there's no going back".
