We pray to Lord Buddha, just like christians, they pray to jesus.
Lets just make this short, Buddhism originated from India from a Handsome Prince which knows nothing bout life and death, and when he realize what is happening around he then became ordained....
Well, too much to write, I will be publishing a write up on Lord Buddha on my blog soon, but at the moment you are welcome to come to my blog for some stories,
http://www.buddha-stories.blogspot.com/

Drop me a mail if you want to get the whole story of Lord Buddha, as the internet line here in in a bad condition, it seems quite impossible to upload it. My email is stated in my blog.

There are different types of Buddhism. Most Buddhists do not worship diety, they seek enlightenment (transcendental awareness). Siddhartha Gautama (The Buddha) lived from about 563 BC to 483 BC. The religion was spread through the teaching of his doctrine of the "four noble truths" and the "eight-fold path" which have been published in many books and languages.

it's different from christianity so most of what you ask doesn't apply. There is the Buddha but he is not a god. Kind of a prophet i guess. I may mix things up with hinduism but here goes.
Buhhda was born as Bohdi Satva, a prince. The royal oracle predicted that when he saw death, old age and sickness that he would not become king. His father wished to keep his son as successor so he kept him inside the castle away from these sufferings. One day the prince came of age and was taken on a parade through the city. on his way he saw a sick person an old woman and a dying person. He saw the suffering of the world and he left the castle. He sat under a tree for a very long time and he realized the cause of suffering which is desire and pleasure or the want of pleasure. Buddha shed all wants and desires and achieved escape from the cycle of reincarnation which keeps us here in a world of desire and suffering.
reincarnation was a base belief of hinduism that transfered into this new religion. Buddha was around the time of JC.
Some may 'worship' the Budha with incense and prayers. holy men however don't worship anyone but spend thier time in ascetic self denial of pleasure. Ridding themselves of pleasure they can rid themselves of desire (which may be nice in itself), once rid of desire your soul can now escape reincarnation and they won't have to be born again into this world of misery and suffering.

The indian prince, siddhartha gautama, saw life's problems (disease, death, etc.) and became depressed and scared. He went on to see if there was a way out of the suffering. He engaged various teachers and practices (yogic, Hindu, etc.), even one that stressed minimizing food intake (weakening his body, he realized this was not a good path). He finally realized himself as we/he really was. At first, he didn't teach because he didn't know how -- this truth needs to be directly experienced and can't be taught. But then he came up with a set of concepts and teachings that could be used as a MEANS to achieve the same experience he had. These are NOT truth but instead tools. They are presented in various teachings called 'sutras', with the summary of his teaching found in the 4 noble truths (talk about the reality of suffering and how there's a path to get out of it) and the 8-fold path (a summary of how to get out of the suffering).
Buddhism spread to other countries and integrated aspects of the native religions in them. Different sects exist in buddhism, each having the same basic teaching. Much of buddhism has lost its original emphasis on direct experience and many in places like China have mixed it with their superstitions and ancestral worship, making Buddhism a belief-based system that treats Buddha as a god and something to be worshipped (and they pray to the buddha to 'get things', just like fundamentalist christians pray to god to get things).
Zen buddhism is probably the closest to original buddhism. When it came to the west, however, many westerners (especially many on this website) treat it as a philosophy. NOTHING could be further from the truth. In Zen, mind training (through koans and other mechanisms) is performed in order to quiet the mind and allow it to go past the fundamental illusion: that we have a real psychological self. Once this is past, one experiences themselves as Everything which resolves the question of life and death and birth.
Some of buddhism gets a weird reputation because of Tibetan buddhism which has integrated reincarnation-like beliefs into it (which were part of the native religion buddhism incorporated when it spread to Tibet). Buddhism has NOTHING to do with reincarnation (despite the many people on the web and on this site who believe otherwise). It can't possibly be part of buddhism because the fundamental idea in buddhism is that there is no self. The buddha saw the problem with the Hindu concept of reincarnation and came up with the concept of Rebirth -- this is VERY VERY different from reincarnation.
There are other buddhist sects as well - pure land, etc.
Main point: use these concepts as tools to get to your own experience. The ego/self is the fundamental problem and working on that is the main task.

Why do you assume that anything would want to be worshiped?
There is no actual bible of Buddhism if that is what you mean.
Long before Christianity. Actually it is what Jesus taught. This fact was covered up by the roman catholics when they decided what was going to constitute the bible.
Love and blessings Don

The wikipedia link is your best bet. And ignore the ignorant Christians. It is NOT Satanism. All you have to do is read up on Buddhism to know that.

Gaz explained it very well, but one more thing. To "worship" buddha is simply doing what is right. Do not cause anything that involves misery. Buddha doesn't care if you worship him or not; he cares about peace. So helping others and avoid doing wrong actions= "worshipping" the buddha.

out of your call techniques i might propose does god exist the main. the clarification i say it fairly is by using the fact out of all of them this one is the least detrimental, and is in all probability to appeal to extra readers. i'm not extremely acquainted with jap religions like hinduism and buddhism yet i be attentive to there are a TON of similarities between specific components of christianity and specific components of paganism, all of that would desire to be coated interior the e book. For a extra special description of the similarities watch the documentary "The God Who Wasn't There". that is extremely informative on that project and actual a sturdy source for an excellent variety of issues that would desire to be coated interior the e book.
