Yes, downloading anything that you did not pay for from Limewire, or any other peer-to-peer program is illegal, because the artist should be getting money for copies of their album/from websites where you have to pay 99cents for a song, etc, and by downloading something for free, you are in turn "stealing" money that should be going to the artists. Another user said, it's not illegal because they haven't had any problems, but the same goes for shoplifting. Just because you haven't been caught, doesn't mean it's not illegal. Get my drift? Hope that helps! ^_-

Depends on how lucky you feel. If you own a copy of the song on LP or CD, you can make a copy for your own use. What may include downloading a copy someone else has already made. What happens if you get sued by the record industy is they come in and compare your CD collection against the songs you have downloaded. Each downloaded song that you don't own the CD for is considered an violation of their copyright.

Downloading songs is legal, yes, because there is no way for the RIAA to go to each person's house and prove that they don't already own the CD with the song(s) on it.
Uploading songs to other people, however, IS illegal. And that's where most people get in trouble: they download songs and then forget to remove it or stop it from from being uploaded to other people.
So, tinker with your Limewire settings so that you do not allow any files to be shared/uploaded from your computer.

Yes, there was a report by a news show. The FBI actually charged a 14-yr. old girl with downloading songs. It was a couple of years ago and well broadcast in the south. But I think a bunch of people still do it!

The U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act is much more strict and deems copying of copyrighted music (with the exception of making a copy for your own use) as illegal. The U.S. Code protects copyright owners from the unauthorized reproduction, adaptation or distribution of sound recordings, as well as certain digital performances to the public. In more general terms, it is considered legal for you to purchase a music CD and record (rip) it to MP3 files for your own use. Uploading these files via peer-to-peer networks would constitute a breach of the law.

If it is copyrighted material, then yes it is illegal. If it is not copyrighted and used by new artist to promote themselves, then it is not illegal. All music heard on the radio is copyrighted for the most part.

to the choice, what you're doing is mentioned as "pirating" yet another be conscious for stealing. it somewhat is illegitimate, yet lots of folk do it that there is almost not something the government can or has achieved to attempt and end it. there isn't any high-quality. you isn't put in reformatory. yet remember you're actually not helping the artists via stealing their song the two. :/
