Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi said the militants in the coastal city of Kismayo were sheltering three men wanted in the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that killed more than 250 people.

"If we capture them alive we will hand them over to the United States," Gedi said.

Im pretty sure you will agree with my opinion since you always seem to know what you are talking about..... When Russia and Afganistan fought we supported the Afgans for one reason, if you agree, for revenge on Russia cause of the cold war. not really with a big military presence, but with weapons, training, and a little physical support. After Russia was defeated thats all we really needed from the Afgans. Now of course I beleive the same is going on cause of our old conflict with Somalia. I thnk that the American Government will definately support and might just have something to do with the defeating of the extremists.

US has already been supporting Ethiopia. At the moment they do not need to intervene directly, as the Ethiopians have tanks and aircraft, while the Islamists have only guns and light artillery.

The Islamists brought peace to much of Somalia for the first time in 16 years, but because they are seen as being pro al-Qaida, the US set out to destroy them. They supported warlords in Mogadishu, when that didn't work they turned to Ethiopia.

Ethiopia was happy to oblige, as a foreign war makes it easier for the government there to clamp down on the opposition.

Will Ethiopia bring peace to Somalia? It's hardly likely, but who cares? As long as Bush can point to a victory in the "War on Terror", dead Somalis don't matter.

Of course, the irony is that the Islamists have now asked for help from anyone, even al-Qaida, so it may prove to be a holow victory.

No. they could in all likelihood make a short-time period alliance with them to break Britain. On a diverse topic, i ask your self if i'm good in supposing that those are a number of the guns qualified as being put in an unusable challenge following the strong Friday settlement. I easily have consistently puzzled even if the IRA merely broke up some rusty previous muskets, conserving the strong stuff for destiny use.

I would be surprised if logistically we aren't already supporting Ethiopia against the Islamic extremists! It's a given, anytime the US has a chance to help someone who is fighting Islam and it's brand of jihad, we will do it!

This might come as a surprise to the liberals in the US, but it's a fact, so go ahead report it to Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reed, Dickey Durbin, John Murtha, and the rest of your ilk.

Yes. Those militants are likely related to Al Qaida. Full US/Ethiopian cooperation would net us more intelligence for our fight against terrorism.

(Unlike many in our country, I don't pretend that our military is spread too thin. As a matter of fact, we haven't begun to tap into our resources. We have enough, probably, two more Iraq-size wars without activating our draft.)

We definitely give support to Ethiopia and Darfur and others around the world. Just food, supplies, and protection for refugees would be enough.

NO!
It has nothing to do with the US
and it will look like a fight against Islam - not help to the Somalis

Umm...probably. Though we're probably not in any immediate danger by either countires, you might as well support the Ethiopians. By no means should we send our soldiers, but moral support is ok.
