Seriously? Only 2 people who answered got that this was just a joke, a pervy joke, but still, just a joke. The moment I read that last part, I got it. At first, I really thought that this was about actually answering with a legitimate answer about the lotto, read the rest, and laughed a little inside. Read the other answers just to see if anyone paid any attention and nope, almost none did. Just goes to show you people here simply want to give their opinion about something immediately instead of reading the full question first, then answering. Oh well. I got a good laugh. And no one wants to hang out with our senior citizens....jeez!

I got sick of checking my numbers finding out I had won and not being able to find the ticket (thankfully all £10 wins and not something big but it happened a few times) Now I play by a monthly DD i set up at the national lottery site, they check my numbers for me and I have no ticket to lose. Much easier. Still check the numbers though just to be safe.

there are a number of reasons people may choose not to cash in their lottery tickets right away. It does not mean they didn't ever check them. It would usually be for tax purposes.. for example, if you win near the end of the year you may choose to cash it in January to avoid taxation on this year's income. Also, if you were in a divorce or something of that nature, you would probably wait until the divorce was finalized. Or, if you were in a position where you could be sued for something... say your dog bites a neighbor and they never took action... they have a certain number of years to take you to court for it, so if you win the lottery they may all of a sudden feel the urge to sue you... I might wait until they could no longer sue to cash it in... no point in cashing it if you're just going to turn around and lose it, etc. etc.

No. I found an old lotto ticket which was worth £10 the other day, unfortunately it was too late to claim it. I'm just really glad it wasn't worth more than that. :-(

No, it makes no sense to not check the numbers....but I have done that before (we all get busy and can procrastinate). Here in the U.S., you usually have 6 months to claim the prize though.
Happy New Year!
Cheers.

a lot of people just get confused and check it against the wrong day or the wrong game and then throw the ticket away.

i think its a conspiracy!
i always check mine and never win any thing !
maybe they detect your eyes looking at the numbers and make the ticket void?!
interesting!

It might just so happen that the lottery ticket holder has died or maybe in hospital.
