I suggest a few cheese and crackers , vegetable @ Ritz would do it. Get some Nachos @ dip potato chips with dips. Buns @ meats if you want to have a few platters. Pickles, cheese, veggies. Go crazy use your imagination. You can still keep the price down.
Sometimes making it potluck(guest bring one dish) is fun.
Frozen starters from supermarkets.(reasonable price) Shrimp ring.
Time is running out so I think you best keep it simple. These are your friends and are there to share the moment with you. Try not to get to caught up in food. Enjoy yourself, after all this is the last 2007 you'll welcome in.

make little snacks like little meat balls, stuffed figs with creamcheeze and a walnut on top, pigs in a blanket,crackers and pate, cheeze, nacho chipz with all kinds of dips, little egg rolls, stuffed eggs (hardboiled eggs, take out the yellow, mix that with some mayonaise, and spices, ketchup not too much has to stay thick and put it back in the egg) role some pickeles in some salami or bolonie, role some asparagus (out of a can) in some nice ham, we use these type of snack at any party here, enjoy

Try a fruit bowl, mini weenies cooked in the toaster oven or convection oven. Cook them with brown sugar over them.

Make hot wings and BBQ wings. Nachos or chili and cheese nachos. Chips any kind little sub sandwiches fun food. You also need to have deserts too.

2 lbs. chicken wings

1 C vegetable oil

1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/2 C butter
1 tsp. cider vinegar
1/2 - 2 tsp. hot pepper sauce, such as Tabasco®

chicken from kfc or browns, or popeyes. miniture meatballs, mostocoli italian beef, sausauge, finger sandwiches, and there are alot more that are simple.
