Response to Answerer's "curiosity."
Had probs. with diverticulitis, had a CT scan, my PCP advised was a hernia that could strangle bowel if not repaired. After some of my own online research,(thanks to your pointed guidance) found laparoscopic surgery is performed to repair these hernias,a a My own PCP had not thought too many surgeons know how so I will send her the website article saying, yes, it is being done and resultant recuperation is much faster. I thought I read something about this being done on an out-patient basis while anesthetised, too, but I will double check this with the surgeon my PCP is referring me to. I believe in being pro-active with my own health and do whatever research is necessary including but not limited to whether or not Medicare and Medicaid will cover this surgery. I'm 72 and would much rather have 3 small incisions (through which surgery is done) so my recuperation time and pain is minimized. I think you can wrap your mind around my reasoning cant' you

If you don't have a surgeon, how do you know you need a laparoscopy? First, go to the AMA website and locate surgeons in your area - in whatever field you think you need the surgery in. Or go to your state medical board website and do the same thing. I'm really curious to know how you know that you even need a laparoscopic surgery...not all surgeries can be performed that way.

laproscopic surgery is so common now that most any surgeon would be qualified to perform that type surgery within his or her specialty. Your primary physician can work with you to find the appropriate surgeon.
