For windows XP type msinfo32
For windows 98 type msinfo
click ok

Navigate around in there to find all your info you need about your system and IE version.

Start IE. Click Help...About Internet Explorer. That will tell you the version of IE.

To see the OS version, right-click on My Computer and select Properties from the context menu.
