Producers, such as plants obtain energy from the sun , and most other producers do too. There is of course a rare orchird that blooms under ground that feeds off the roots of living plants, but I think that it would be more of a parasitic consumer than a producer. The orchid is mostly found in Australia and it gives off a wonderful perfume, but back to your question. Producers are organisms that make the own food, organisms that make their own food are sometimes refered to as autotrophs, and consumers are sometimes known as heterotrophs. Although some organism get energy by other means, producers mainly get enery from the sun by making energy using their own bodies so basically the sun makes the world go round.Oh also the process that plants use to make the food is called photosinthesis.

in plants, energy from the sun powers photosynthesis to capture and store its energy/photons by exciting electrons & storing this energy temporarily in NADP+/NADPH and ADP/ATP
