Every answer here is good, drink and stay hydrated, eat, and take either asprin (good), motrin (better), or an over the counter migraine medication (best).
The next day you need to take something with caffiene in it. The over the counter migraine medication contains asprin, acetaminophen, and caffiene that fights off the affects of the migraine, which is similar to a hangover. Also drinking something such as PowerAde or Gatorade will help after you finish your drinking.
Start drinking water long before you start drinking alcohol. You know you have done it right when you need to urinate before you finish your drink.
Avoid food that takes too long to digest or that may upset your stomach or you may be talking to Ralph and hugging the porcelin bowl in the bathroom!

Other than the previously metioned remedies, I noticed that the quality of the alcohol effects the severty of my hangover (or even if i have one). The better the quality of the alcohol the less likely I will have a hangover. The quality of water in the country of origin used to make the liquor is also a factor. They tell you not to drink the water in Mexico for a reason. Sounds a little wierd but try it some time. Have a night out drinking cheap stuff, then try it buying a better quality brand. Popov vs. Grey Goose. I do think staying hydrated before a night of drinking is the best solution/remedy.

Drink but not until you're not completely slobbering drunk, stick with one kind of alcohol, i.e.: just vodka based drinks.
The reason people say drink a lot of water or eat a lot of food is because it actuall dilutes the alcohol in your system, you metabolize it slowly, and it takes more time (and more alcohol) to get drunk.
If you want to get hammered, you're going to have to live with a hangover. If you drink only up to your limit, you won't get drunk but your head wont split into two halves the next morning, either. Its a choice to make.

Besides not drinking. Sugar is the culprit, avoid mixing with sodas or sweet drinks. Sour mash whiskey won't give you a hangover like Sweet brown liquor. Try an aspirin before you sleep.

Take an aspirin after imbibing and before bed. It counters the effects alcohol has on the blood vessels. I've never tested it as I've always been pretty conservative with my drinking. At least now I am. Don't ask me about when I was in college.
