Is that a good thing? I read books that proclaim that America is a modern Sodom and Gomorrah. But then you look at Europe and you see secularism in action.

By European standards, yes it's very religious and difficult to understand...
By Saudi Arabian standards, USA may be Satan and perverted...
Judge by yourself if you consider USA as "Sodom and Gomorrah" (who wrote this, seriously ?)

It's not a good thing when religion tend to prevail, or when you call the name of God to justify your actions. Or when 50% say they wouldn't vote for someone if they know he/she's atheist, no matter if he's the best people required for the job... Or when wiccans and non-believers are forced to go to court to have their opinions respected... Or when a religious theory (creationism) is taught at some schools and said to be as valuable as scientific researchers (why scientists can't teach in churches then ??).
And what religious books must be followed ? Bible ? Coran ? Torah ? Buddha's teachings ? Hinduists ? LaVey ?

In Europe, religion has been the source of many conflicts and wars. Religious hierarchy made alliances with the oppressive monarchies. Secularism has been installed after long battles against the religions. America hasn't been much in religious conflicts in its shorter history. That's probably the difference between us.

Obviously America is a religious country, mainly Christian. And those rules, "morals" decide things for our country. We can't treat homosexuals as equals because this religion says it is "immoral." I say no, it is not a good thing. People should be able to be free. Not have to worry if they're different, if they don't fit into one religion. That's why people first came to America. Freedom from religious persecution. And what do we have now? Ha.

That's hard to say. Even though only 10% of Americans are Atheists (like me), whether the majority of the other 90% are religious (doing more than the occasional holiday celebration) is impossible to tell.

I'd say it's something like 55/45 or something close, but probably the answer is yes.

Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zeland are virtually secular places. It shows that absence of religion can be achieved!

America is religious and this affects our education (Intelligent Design) to our politics (Red States vs Blue States)

Most people in America worship everything from money, rocks, trees, PEOPLE, and even themselves. There are some Christians who love the LORD and worship Him. What I am saying is this. Remember what Christ said, "wide is the road that leads to destruction, and narrow is the road to life"

(paraphrased for the ones who cannot understand, but I am sure those who love Christ will know what I mean)

Americans like to tell everyone they do the will of Our Father. Americans have been raised to be very self-oriented, they think they have a freedom that includes bending the Word to their will. They are also raised feeling obligated to make everyone else in the world live as they do. I live in America (Midwest) in service to my Father only, through the love and guidance of Jesus Christ. And it can be very difficult because my fellow citizens feel obligated out of love to convert my will to that of their own.

It is religious but religion is useless. Good actions are important but those have nothing in common with religion (sure, some religious people encourage good acts, non religious people do too - being religious is not a necessary condition to good actions).

America is a very non-religious country that bends over backwards to pretend to be - just in case.

yes, America is a very religious country. The people who live in democrat cities dont see this, but when you go into the "deep south" it becomes blatantly evident. i dont think its a bad thing, but i dont think its a good thing either. but, thats just my opinion.
