My 2003 Dodge Neon SXT I got about a week ago is already causing problems. And I only had the car for one whole day. And is currently still sitting over at the car lot. And nothing will be done till after the holidays. I'm in the middle of perhaps exchanging the car all together.

Is there any chance you'd consider something more along the lines of a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla? Not that the Neon is a gas hog, but in the coming months and years you're really going to want a high MPG car. I've never driven an SXT, but I was more impressed with the Ford Focus than a standard Neon.

Neons are a love it or hate it car - as you have no doubt noticed. I have/have had four Neons: '95, '01, 02, '05. All have been reliable and fun cars. Notwithstanding my positive report, many owners do report problems - especially oil leaks in older cars. At some risk of over generalization, the Neon is known for its brakes, handling, economical purchase price, parts availability and roominess. It is not generally known for its mileage.

As with any used car, best predictor of future trouble-free operation is timely maintenance and repair by the previous owner(s).

Well number one it is a Sxt, not a xst. The 2005 were great cars because after 10 years they finally got all the kinks out of them. Also remember they changed almost nothing mechanical from 95-05 so you have a good chance of having all the weak points fixed.

The SRT is quicker and a little more sportier..Neons are good little city cars...also the Hyundai Tiburon, Saturn Ion, Chevy Cobalt, Honda Civic, Scion TC, and etc...there are so many nice little cars...test drive them all before making a final decision.

I am using it right now as a rental. For some reason, it seems to be guzzling gas at the tune of 15 mpg. The engine is a bit on the weak side, struggling sometimes when I go uphill. Besides that, it's a fine car.

I drove it for like a week and i didn't like it, the cloth seats felt cheap, it looks ugly in my opinion and im pretty sure it will be unreliable in the long run..and for the $15,000-$16,000 base price..u can get something better like a civic.
