We just lost our female Siberian Husky, who tolerated our chihuaha but still did not get along with her either. Neiko our male SH, is now very protective of his toys, food, etc., so when Naunee (C) goes outside, she barks at him and they don't play, they just kind of avoid each other. How can I get them to get along???

Occasionally after time they will come to tolerate each other more. Find out why Neiko is being so protective of his resources. Remember that animals grieve over loss too, so he may be feeling stress as a result of your other dog's passing. Don't worry about it unless it looks like one is being aggressive toward the other. Sibes naturally have a strong prey drive toward small animals, and a chihuahua is definitely a small animal. Supervise them when they are together, and offer plenty of petting and treats to both dogs so interacting with each other is a positive experience. Good luck!

He doesn't consider himself an alpha male. Like many people, low self esteem! ;-)

Like people, you can force a dog to like another dog. Either they do, or they don't.

reassure your SH that what's his is his and that he doesn't have to compete for it. And make sure you are the "pack leader".
