Joseph was engaged to Mary, which was pretty much a sealed deal back then, all that was left was the big party and the consummation of the union. The account in the bible says that they did not consummate the marriage until after Jesus was born. And later on, during Jesus ministry on earth, people speak about his brothers James, Joseph, Judas and Simon, and his sisters.
Mary did not remain a virgin after Jesus' birth, and His brothers and sisters were not born from an immaculate conception. It was just Him.

Yes and they went on to have more kids, Jesus had a brother called James for a start, however this is a matter of record, and not the bible, and of course there is no proof that Jesus was the son God, or that Mary and Joseph were the parents, however the Hebrew text states that the Mother of Christ was a young Woman called Mary, it was only a poor translation that put the word Virgin in the text. There is also written evidence that there was a man of this time going around doing th things Jesus was said to have done, that part can be proved, but of course not the part of where he is the son of God that is down to faith, to which i do believe

Mary and Joseph were betrothed (engaged) at the time that Mary became pregnant with Jesus. There is no record of a marriage in the Bible. It simply states.
Mat 1:24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.

2) Why didn't Joseph have sex with her until Jesus was born if they were married the whole tim? Did God or one of his angels tell him he'd be punished if he tried anything? They both saw angels, so I think there was a little fear involved. 1) After Jesus was born, did Joseph and Virgin Mary ever have sex or did they remain a married virgin couple for the rest of their lives? Don't ask me where the Roman Catholics get it. They look pretty retarded if you ask me when it comes to this: Mark 6:3 "Where did this man get these things?" they asked. "What's this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles! Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him. See?

However it does tell you quite a bit . It tells you that Joseph was betrothed to Mary when he discovered she was expecting a baby.
It also tells you that Joseph was an honourable man and was of the line of King David.
It also tells you that Joseph was told by the angel in a dream, "not to be afraid to take Mary as your wife" - because the pregnancy was the will of God.
The Gospels of the New Testament (Good News) are primarily there to describe the life and works of Jesus. The rest is background information.

"After Joseph woke up, he and Mary were soon married, just as the Lord's angel had told him to do. But they did not sleep together before her baby was born. Then Joseph named him Jesus." - Matt. 1.24-25 (Contemporary English Version)
Oh, and by the way, BOB is correct. The Catholic doctrine of the "Immaculate Conception" is not about Jesus being born of a virgin. It claims that Mary was conceived without "original sin" so that she could conceive the Son of God.

The Romans taxed married couples.
Luke 2
2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
2:2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
2:3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
2:4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; * (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
2:5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

Probably, but the bible fails to mention it becaus it is of no relevance; equally, it's likely that JC married, as was the custom amongst the Jews, but this was not mentioned for the very same reasons.
Incidentally, catholic priests were only prevented from marrying in or around the middle ages as a means of safeguarding church property from inheritance issues.
