When one makes a promise to God to no longer do something (such as drink alcohol), what happens if that person goes back on the promise and does what they promised not to do, even if its just once? Does God get angry and turn His back on them? Can the person repent and be forgiven again? Scripture verses for proof would be a big help. Thank you!

Budding author - I beg to differ. How does a few sentences of a question make it seem that I am young and naive? My questions cannot tell someone what type of person I am. I am asking logical, realistic questions that anyone would ask. Thank you.

Numbers 30:2 states: "When a man makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said."

But Leviticus 5:4-6 offers hope: "Or if a person thoughtlessly takes an oath to do anything, whether good or evil--in any matter one might carelessly swear about--even though he is unaware of it, in any case when he learns of it he will be guilty. When anyone is guilty in any of these ways, he must confess in what way he has sinned and, as a penalty for the sin he has committed, he must bring to the Lord a female lamb or goat from the flock as a sin offering; and the priest shall make atonement for him for his sin."

And finally, Mt 12:31 states: "Therefore, I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit." Breaking an oath is not blasphemy against the Spirit, so you can be forgiven.

That pretty much gives you your answer. It is a sin, and you are held responsible, but God will not turn His back on you. Jesus is our sacrificial lamb, so if you confess your sin and repent, then in His name you will be forgiven.

Your bit asking for 'Scripture verses for proof' caught my eye rather than the main part of your question. Scripture verses never ever 'proved' anything, you can actually translate scripture verses to mean whatever you want them to mean.
But I have been wondering how it is that religious folk don't seem to have got a hold on New Years day, they seem to have stolen almost every other previous festival?
Here is an ideal opportunity, we could have 'Promise to God' day
instead of New Years resolutions.
As a very very non religious feller, I can tell you that the religious folk will tell you that God does not get angry, just sad, but if you truly repent no matter what you have done or said, ( not sure about blasphemy, that may be the exception depending on which of many religions you follow) you will be forgiven, you will be given many scripture verses to provide you wth 'proof' of this.
You appear to be very young and naive by the tone of your question , however you haven't asked for the advise of an atheist, so I'll just 'butt out' and wish you a 'Happy new Year' before they do take it over. If you want to make any resolution tonight then just do it for your self, then when you break them its just a matter between you and your conscience , you wont have the 'God' problem to worry about.

First we are imperfect humans trying our best. God is fully aware of that. He takes into consideration our heart...your intentions for the promise was a good one. However you slipped up. God knows that. The fact that you have brought this up lets him know that you are sorry. That is what is being judged. If you read mark 14 Jesus told Peter (his loyal follower) that before the crow cocks twice you will deny me three times. Now Peter was Like Jesus' right hand man. However out of fear he denied even knowing Jesus. People who blatantly sin and continue on with the same course ....those people will be the ones God takes issue with.

The Bible says it is better to never make a vow than to make one and break it. Plain and simple stop trying to bargain with God. God understands that we a fallable and that as Paul said "my soul is willing, but my flesh is weak". God knows that we cannot live a perfect life or else he wouldn't have had to surrender His son as the perfect sacrifice. My advise is to not make promises that you can't keep, and understand that God wants us to try our best, but He doesn't expect us to never sin. (FYI I don't believe drinking alcohol is a sin. I think being a slave to alcohol is a sin, but even Jesus had wine to drink.)
