My cousin was dating a cop. He did a background check, and saw that she had a dui. He said it was against co. policy to date some-one with a record. Was this just an excuse to dump her?

I've never heard of that unless it was a felony. The only policy I've ever known of was that officers were not permitted to "hangout" with felons.

More than likely the was just using it as an excuse to dump her. However, there are some departments that do highly "frown upon" somones signifcant other who has a rap sheet. Some departments do have policies on things like this, but they usually focus on the spouse having been convicted of felonies.

He might have been very career minded in that department so the thought it would be a better idea to dump her because he knew his supervisors would "frown upon" it.

An excuse. He probably didn't wnt to hurt her feelings and chose to depersonalize it to this policy. Many cops hate drunks and see the carnage DUIs cause. She should move on and call a cab in the future.

I do know of some that have dated cops and had a "minor" record, but it is best for the cops not to as it could and will be considerd a "CONFLICT of INTEREST". In other words the cop might have a tendency to show favoritism to the person in which he/she is involved withshould that person get in trouble NOT GOOD!

That is more of an ethics question. I do not believe that a misdeameanor is against policy. It was probably an excuse. Yet On the officers side that could be used against him if his ethics are ever questioned. How can they be sure he is treating the criminals correctly if he is dating one. That may be the real reason why he broke it off.

I think that was just an excuse for him to dump her. There is no rule or law saying that police officers can only date this type of people or that type.

That is a LAME excuse. Yes you may date a police officer if you have a misdemeanor.

cops can date whoever they want... but its kinda frowned apon if its a felon. there are alot of people who have a record. my instructer has a record. my brother-in-law has a record. my instructer was a cop and my brother-in-law is still a cop. i might even have a record.

a cop can date someone who was convicted of murder as long as he reports it to his department.

No there is no such rule I have ever heard about.

Sounds like reason to dump
