Dear, Check your question again..

Rebooting means that you want to restart your computer again..Normally it is done after adding/removing a software....

I think you are trying ReInstalling...it means that you want to remove the existing Operating System..and trying to reinstall it..so that all you can safely remove all the garbage softwares and other irrevelant data...In case you want to save your 3000 songs or other important data, simply take the back up of that desired data on some DVD / CD / PenDrive etc or some other HardDisk....
After Reinstalling the operating system. simply restore the data that you have earlier backed up on DVD/CD/PenDrive/HardDisk...

I think you are referring to format,
Images and songs are data files.
You can get an external hard drive or burn them to CD with ease.
You have back ups and you can take them to another computer.
other good candidates for external hard drive.
Video files, back up your outlook, installation files, most save game files.
You can copy almost everything with easy as long it is not under the folder windows. folder programs can also be a problem but do able.
