We are trained that way. Discipline, Honor, Stuff like that. look up the code of the marines or navy, army, or air force. you'll see. They get that gig by being an outstanding officer. and by being exemplary.

discipline. Most of us have been there. My first night in the army I stood at parade rest for an hour and a half. I would rather stand at attention. If you get an itch you just pray it goes away fast. The worst is when you feel a mosquito crawling on your face, because you know what's coming.

You just do. You concentrate on other things if your nose itches. You'd be surprised what you can overlook and control when you have to. It's an honor to do this service and you don't want to be the only one itching your nose while cameras on you. The guards at Scottland yard have it tough. I mean people try and make you move or laugh or twitch. Atleast these guys aren't tested like that.

Simple answer is "Training, training and more training". The military is taught not to move, even with a nose itch, for their own safety. Think about it. If you and your buddies are hiding in underbrush from enemy solderers, would you want your buddy scratching his nose and have the enemy start shooting?

Well I was in the army but I can tell you that they do move ever so slightly. They wiggle their toes, move their knees and such. The iching part though they have to bear it till it can be scratched or it goes away. Never lock you knees for that long or you will pass out.

The same way they do everything else: discipline, honor, training, obeying orders. It's one of the many ways they serve our Country. It's the same training that gets them through combat; through the derogatory remarks made against them; through losing their comrades in arms. Personally, i think all civilians should be required to salute all military personnel, open doors for them, give up our place in lines for them, etc. It's the very least we could do for those who put their lives on the line every day for us.

It is an odd thing, it is a mixture of intense concentration, and complete relaxation. They stand there like that by zoning out. When I had to do it, it was as if the whole world was gone, and I was standing there by myself.

You do NOT lock your knees for one thing. That will make em drop like dominoes. You ignore the itchy nose. It's called discipline.
