I had my wisdom teeth pulled out about 5 months ago, my right side healed up, but my gums on my left side have been hurting. someone told me that you could get really sick if they get infected, and you could get headaches. Any thoughts? comments? Need to know soon!!

Since they were extracted 5 months ago, you are probably due for a checkup anyway (every six months is best). So I would go see a dentist and have the area looked at.

Signs that you are getting an infection:
1) swelling: you start to have swelling under your jaw and in your cheek on that side. Your "glands" (lymph nodes) may get swollen and feel like little raisins or small grapes under your skin too.
2) redness/heat: the gums and surrounding area look beefy red and feel hot.
3) temperature: you are running a fever
4) malaise: you feel run down, sick or like you feel not right.

These are signs you could have an infection. If you do, go to the doctor (ER, Urgent Care Clinic, Physician, Dentist, Whomever).

It could be something else entirely - and the extraction of your wisdom tooth is just a coincidence or the procedure itself stirred up something else.

Either way you should have a dentist take a look.

Make an appointment with your dentist to find out. I would go soon, as 5 months is a long time to wait if there is an infection.

at the start - Having your extraction achieved via an oral wide-unfold practitioner is the nicely suited selection. in the adventure that your insurance will conceal wide-unfold anesthesia then you definately've gotten a miles extra helpful journey. you probably wont remember lots, it somewhat is sturdy. you will basically nod off, and then your record or the assistant will wake you while the surgical technique is over. you would be quite groggy after, and sleep quite lots something of the day. (plus you would be taking your soreness meds which will make you drained) basically basically make certain you hold on with your pre-surgical instructions and don't consume or drink something in the previous surgical technique. not even a pitcher of water- the anesthesia will make you ill except you have an empty abdomen. don't be scared- you will do high-quality. a minimum of you're doing all 4 at as quickly as- then you definately do not would desire to bypass by it lower back. carry in there! (I worked for an oral wide-unfold practitioner so i comprehend you're worried. you're actually not on my own) via the way- I had mine out too. it isn't the final journey - yet not the worst the two. sturdy luck!

"infection" per se is unlikely, but you could have some kind of chronic dry socket. If this is the case, it porbably won't go away on it's own. it needs to be treated by a dentist with medicatd dressing, which will help it heal.

Infections can get serious. If I were you I'd call the dentist that pulled them out and tell them. They might want you to come in so they can look at that area......

Don't self-diagnose. Go back to the dentist or your doctor to see if there's an infection.....a simple antibiotic will kill it. Why have you waited five months if you're in pain?
