I don't understand why you wouldn't want to download it since the program requires internet use anyway. You can do the following to get it-4-free:
click start-->control panel-->add remove programs
On the left of the new window
click add/remove windows components
check box for windows messenger
click next
follow onscreen instructions to finalize installation
NOTE: May require original windows OS disk.
Even so, it would be better to download a newer version.

you neednot download messenger coz it comes wen u install windows xp.ifnot try it out at www.meebo.com here you can use msn messenger without downloading it...

msn messenger comes with WIN XP...there is no need to download it..you can use it from there..and its free

There is a Java version for Yahoo, but I think you must download and install for MSN.

Goto http://webmessenger.msn.com/ and login from without downloading it. it's handy when you need to sign in without installing it on someone else's computer !
