My 21 year old son is in the Air Force and he loves it. He calls regulary and always has a positive attitude about his duties and the life. I also have a son in the Army and it is much harder and a different lifestyle (obviously). The Air Force builds strong character and a pride in ones self. They carry themself with so much more pride. The living conditions on the AF bases are incrediable and often look like a minor resort (with excellent facilities, grounds keeping, etc.) My son has an wonderful private dorm. Of course you have to go to San Anotonio for boot camp, but when we attended my son's graduation it seemed that it was less physically demanding on the women than other branches might possibly be. Get online on the military sites and ask questions, esp. for the women. I think you might like it. I looked at the Navy when I was in HS but truly wished I had chosen the AF. Instead, got married had babies and don't regret a moment of it! But I did marry a Navy man. :)

Well the Air Force has the easiest boot camp, the best food and the most relaxed jobs....from what I hear. However if you want to make rank the Airforce makes you wait 24 months to promote you to e4 even if you come in as e3....all the other branches only make you wait your time in rank. The air force also has the most ridiculous standards and rules of any branch. I was never in the air force but I was in the military for 7 years, and if I could do it all over I would but I still wouldn't go to the air force. You'll be called a "fly-girl" by everyone you meet that is in any other branch.

I think its a great idea. Be open to all possibilities. I never understood people who wanted to join and get stationed close to home. The only problem I had with it was I was stuck in a theater, and it was overseas imbalanced. So even though I loved the Air force I was stuck in the far east. I didn't mind being overseas, it's much more fun over there, but the far east was nice for one tour only in my opinion.

You know, I wanted to join the Air Force when I was 17. My parents didn't approve. I needed their approval so much that I didn't do it and I always wish I had. Go for it!

There's a lot of drama, its kind of like high school. Its bad if you are a girl. People talk alot about you behind your back. That kind of stuff.
