I've read from so many different sources, and most of the time I get different answers. I don't believe that the cold air does it, but I know that I get sicker during the coldest months. What causes this? Could I get some good, reliable sources for the answer?

If you're referring to getting the common cold from cold weather, the answer is no. You can only get a cold from a cold virus.

The reason we get more colds in the winter is because we are more confined to the indoors during this period (especially school) and the cold virus can rapidly move from one individual to another.

The best way to prevent a cold is to do your best not to come in contact with those that are infected. Hard to do, I know. All you can really do is wash your hands with soap and water, especially if you are around people with colds.

If you have a cold, use a tissue when you sneeze, don't shake a person's hand, etc.

It's interesting to note that when you catch a cold, your body becomes immune to that viral strain and you can't catch it again. The reason we get so many colds, is because there are over 200 different cold virus's.

It is an old wives tale.
The only way to get a cold is by catching a cold virus. This occurs by touching, breathing, wiping, or eating. You know by touching something some who was infected touched, then wiping you eye, or picking you nose.
It also a common mis conception that if you are around someone with a cold, and you are sick the next day. This just isnt true. The common cold virus takes up to 2 weeks to incubate in your body, so it is probably immpossible to trace where you got it from.

You don't get sick from being out in the cold, being in a draft or any other things. The reason you sick more often during cold weather is because you spend more time inside closer to more people that you do in warmer weather. When you are inside you are exposed to more germs from people coughing and sneezing and you are getting the fresh air you normally do as you keep your windows closed and the furnace running in the winter time.
