I was. Not beatings, but spankings. It got to be very embarrassing by junior high. This was back in the 80s though.

No. I am 30 and was spanked as a child but it stopped when I was around 7, 8. It is disfunctional for a child to be spanked at that age, even back in the 80's it was. I am not against spankings.....proper ones on the behind but not after a certain age and only if it is meant to change their behaviour, not just because the parent is angry and is taking their frustrations out on the child.

I got a spanking once when I was 14. And i think once when I was 17 I back talked to my mom and she swatted my butt a few times in front of the whole family.
Sure put be back in my place as a teenager and not an adult pretty fast.
I dont think its common to have regular spankings as punishment when you're a teen.... But once in a while theres just no better way for knocking over a high horse for a teen thats just a little too high and mighty.

Definitely not i was spanked in adolescence but when you start getting to the point where that isn't punishment and is just embarrassing it stops becoming the discipline of choice for parents they move on to groundings and taking things like your car away from you

I don't know I was lectured and made to feel like the worste kid on the planet so sometimes I wish I had been spanked it is quick and over with a lecture lasts for like forever

I wasn't spanked as in high school but I was slapped in the face a couple times for being sassy and talking back.

Sometimes, If my mom or dad got really really pissed, they would spank me on my bottom, even if I was like, 16. (Not as often as at a younger age), or if I really talked back to my mom, she would pop me in the mouth with her palm (not hard, but you know what I mean). I think it is normal. Yeah, I know what you mean about embarrassing. As long as it wasn't like, an actual "beating" (like, punching, thrown against a wall,etc) it's fine. (I've never been "beat"--smacked on the *** with a wooden spoon a few too many times)

I have never known anyone that has been spanked past elementary school years. I never was spanked but twice in my life that I can recall and I turned out just fine. But to each his or her own I guess!

No my mom never spanked me or hit me. I wouldn't even think of hitting my kids at that age grounding hits them harder in the heart then a spanking. Spanking is bad your not suppose to hit.

I don't know about back in the 80's but now not really. Some high schoolers I know may get smacked by there parents from time to time if they do something really stupid.

Not normal by my standards, but different parents have different viewpoints. Also, I'd be interested to hear what you were doing that required being spanked beyond 4th grade.
