I just got a tattoo on my back (black, lots of shading, about 4" in diameter) on Friday, and when I woke up this morning, after inadvertently sleeping on my back, my nightshirt was damp in the area of the tattoo, and you could see the pattern on the shirt itself from the ink on the tattoo. Is this normal? There's no evidence of blood, just ink. Even on my day clothes, there's some ink, but I think it looks more like ink flakes. I've been washing it with antibacterial soft soap about three times a day, patting it dry with a towel, and using this ointment that the shop gave to me for aftercare (it is something natural and herbal that the owner makes herself). I also have some Eucerin unscented lotion that I was going to switch to by Monday or Tuesday. Also, as a side question, how does perspiration affect the tattoo? Is it okay to perspire modestly if you exercise?

Dont worry, its absolutley normal for the ink to bleed and then the dead skin flakes off.

Yes, everything you describe is normal starting from the day you get it done and for up to a few days thereafter. The reason this is happening is that a tattoo is actually a rather large bruising of the skin by repeatedly punching tiny holes in the skin deep enough to get fairly deep into the living tissue. Your skin responds to this damage by bleeding a small amount, usually not enough to see as the holes are small and then weeping plasma, that is the fluid which carries the platelets to an injury so a scab can form. Some of the ink can be "washed" out by the outflow from the wounded area. The same applies to outflow from perspiration. However, this ink leakage should stop completely in a few days as the skin heals. Ink however, can still be washed out of your pores by sweat for quite some time afterwards, but the quantity will rapidly decrease to nothing.

i have had 6 tattoos and with 2 of them, had some ink linkage. don't stress...it'll be fine. and the ink colored flakes coming off are normal...it is just your skin healing. there is just a small chance that your tattoo could look a bit faded once it is fully healed....but most artists allow you to come in for a touch up free of charge. touch ups are common. of course you are going to perspire through your skin if you get too hot, so that is normal also. just be careful when picking out your work out clothes....not sure where your tattoo is but don't wear any tight clothing (like a sports bra) it'll rub, esp. if you are moving around alot and that is not good for your tattoo.

The ink coming out is normal. As for the cleaning, what I do is wash with antibacterial soap or wipe my tattoos with alcohol then I pat fry a little bit and then let them air dry for about 10 min and follow it with Lubriderm. I have 16 tattoos and all are well, I have done this with all of them.

mine showed a little bit after it was done. you could see what it was on my shirts. only did thie for about a day. I kept it very clean with the antibacterial soap and with the ointment they gave me. after a couple days it dried up and then flaked a little and now is fine. Call your tatoo artist just to make sure he may want to look at it to ensure it is healing as it should. They will have better recomendations if they dont like how it is healing. Call them today or first thing tue after the new Year.

It is normal...its the clear liquidy stuff that is tryin to heal the tattoo...and the flakes are just the scabs forming over the tatoo...give it abouta week after you got it done and keep washin it like you said...just dont scrub to hard...just pat it wit ur loofah or whatever...and dont pick at the scabs...keep rubbin the ointment on it and dont let dry up or else it could heal funny as far as shades and what not.

First of all wash it in the AM and PM, no need for 3 washes a day, the tattoo needs to bleed out the ink, and plasma. Dont put anything on it for the next couple days, let it dry out. and it begins to turn really red around the tattoo, its an infection youll need to go to the dr. if not , give it a couple days, let it heal on its own without you irriatating it, and tehn you can begin to use lotion. Good luck

sweat is bad for a tattoo, really a lot if its organic ink,try bag balm ointment i recommend it to all the people i tattoo, its a little pricey $7.00 at walmart or even more at a local pharmacy but a little goes a long way, have someone rub the sauve into the tattoo then wipe it completlt dry(you want it in the tattoo not on the outside,it cannot breathe, thats why tattoos disapate fluid)bag balm is in a green cannister i stand buy it totally,on sweat i used to work out and have tribal on my right leg sweat got in there and even after cleaning out w/anti bac. soap i had color loss, think about it sweat has sodium in it,it dries out and bleaches,
