I finally found "the one". how should i tell my parents?

This man makes my heart soar. I finally found him after years of me searching for him and him searching for me (we used to work together). I can't stop thinking about him, and when he kissed me and told me he's always loved me, my heart literally skipped a beat. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him. Problem? He is black and my parents are against interracial dating. I have an idea on how to tell them, but I hate confrontations like this with them...last time I got slapped and told that if I date another black man, my kids would be taken away (keep in mind, my kids are mixed too). Not to mention this man loves my kids...so how should I tell my parents????

Well maybe you should take him with you, let him be the one to tell them that he loves you and wants to take care of you and your children for the rest of your lives, of course they are going to be upset, but if they hear it from him, and he can reassure them that this is serious, eventually they will come around. Try taking them to dinner, and both of you approach this as adults, at least if you are in a crowded restaurant, they may refrain from violence. Good Luck!

Just tell them exactly what you just told us. All about how he makes you feel. Once you see how happy they are that you are happy, nobody can take your kids because you date a blackman. Unless this man in a physical abuser or drug abuser, no one can take your kids. Since your kids are mixed, it shouldn't be that much of a surprise to your parents. If he loves you and your kids, that needs to come first. Your parents will adjust. And if not, it will be your parents loss, there is nothing they can do about your kids. Oh, you never said how old you are.. are you on your own? and how old are your kids? If you are like 17 and your kids are 1 and 2 there might be a little problem there.. I need a little more info here.

The only thing you have to do is just tell them I would defiently not keep it a secret. This is someone that you love and I think your parents should know because it is a big deal. Don't worry about them being upset with you because that's their problem, not yours. And knowone should be making a big deal about interracial relationships I mean come on it is almost 2007 not 1967. Just tell your parents what's going on and just follow your heart with everthing you do. Good luck

Wait until you're engaged and definitely getting married. I wouldn't want you to lose the one but really make sure that he is. Wait until they ask you if he's black and then say yes. I'm sorry this is such a big deal for your family. I'm sure he's a great guy! Good luck :)

well do you still live in your paren'ts house? if not, don't worry to much. if you do, well you might have to follow their rules. if you're serious, the two of you get married and build your own family. if your parents don't accept the two of you, that is there loss. life is too short to be fighting over what color crayola you're going to color with.

It's your life-not theirs. you marry who you want to!! and if that means that your parents aren't gonna be at your wedding, then they're the ones missing out. have a great life with this guy!!!
