What is the best type of battery to have in a cordless phone and any suggestions for best brand??

I'm looking for a long lasting Cordless Phone with Digital Answering Machine, volume control, phone jack (for headset), and speaker phone capabilities. Generally though I'm looking for advice on different types of batteries and what is best for longer life.

Digital phones generally charge themselves! None of mine (at home or work) have batteries....
