I think people who get upset about that are not very sure of their own believes. If you really believe in something, the fact that other people don't think or feel the same way about it doesn't matter. I agree with you on the issue that the bible was written by man, by the way.

Most people are fearfully of those who don't believe in the bible,as you say the general idea of the book is to get people to do the right things in life,we all should want that.Fact is the bible is a wonderfull book of short shorts written by people with good intentions, possibly a children's fable book of that day and age who really knows.Bottom line its a good reference to who to live a good life God would proply approve of it,dont you thing?

it is only the first part that hurts people who think their book is written by God
whether you think it is a great idea or not would not matter without belief in the first part
but of course you are entitled to your opinion though and perhaps people should reckognise that and try not to be so upset

the Bible was not written by man. It is God's word recorded by his prophets. It is good that you believe in the principles of the Bible, but belief that God authored the Bible is essential in order for you to derive all the benefits and blessings of his word.

Probably its the way you say it. Maybe you are a little condescending. Some people, I being one of them, base their whole life on this book and when someone comes along and criticize me for it, it hurts a little. It is fine for you to believe as you wish, but don't push them on me or my children. This is my truth and this is the way I wish to live.

Yup, seems they didn't pay attention to the second part! But I wouldn't be upset if you told me that!

Because generally people are blinded and not able to see what is real and what isn't real in this life. Religions for them are like their God, while God and religions are 2 different things.

Who gets upset at that?
That's the basic approach of liberal Christianity. Maybe you just talk to too many fundamentalists.
